Principal's Pulse

We want to cordially invite you to come to our Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 20th. You may drop your child(ren) off at one of the following locations: Kinder - Library, 1st/2nd Grades - Cafeteria and 3rd/4th Grades - Gym at 5:45 p.m. We will have guest readers, games and Boosterthon stations for your children to enjoy. You will then have choices of three sessions to attend from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Our theme is An Amazing Race, The Keys to an Amazing School Year. You will hear from your child's teacher about grade specific information. You will also have the opportunity to hear subject specific information about reading, math, technology, etc. from which to choose. We look forward to "An Amazing" night of learning with you.

Sign ups for UIL teams are currently underway. You should have received an informational note in the Thursday folders. Any 2nd - 4th grader may sign up to try out for a team. The lists will be posted in grade level hallways. Encourage your child to give these academic contests a try.

Progress reports went home yesterday. Please be sure to sign it and return it to school if you did not do so today. Thanks!

Thank you for helping your children get acclimated to the new school year. Thank you for providing time to read with them and to discuss their learning at home. That will make all the difference in the success they have this year!

Jump Rope for Heart

Our students did a fantastic job of raising money for the American Heart Association and learning about a heart healthy lifestyle this week in PE class.

Thank you to Coach McMurray for leading the way in this endeavor!

Let your child show off the jump rope skills that have improved over the last couple of weeks to you at home.

So far, the children have turned in over $3,300 in donations to the AHA. We will report the total amount raised for the AHA when we get the final count. Thank you for your support!

Kindergarten Students

These students are practicing their sight words by writing in shaving cream on their tables.

Our art students are celebrating National Dot Day by creating 1/4 of a dot that will be combined with three other parts using pastels and watercolors.

Traffic Flow for Car Line

Please follow this traffic pattern in the mornings and the afternoons. We want to reserve San Carlos to allow for northbound traffic in case we get back up on Newport from Highway 5 if at all possible. Traveling southbound on San Carlos causes a bottleneck at Newport. Also, please do not use the parking lot on the east side of the building. It is reserved for buses and daycare pickup along with staff parking. We have had several near misses with parents who are trying to zip in that direction. If your child is eating breakfast at school, you should drop them off by 7:30, so they have time to finish breakfast and get to their classrooms before 7:45. Thank you for your cooperation and your help to keep our students safe and to get them to class on time.

New VAES General Email for Reporting Absences or Asking General Questions

We have a new email address! This email link is also on our website should you need to refer to it in the future.

If you need to report an absence, please send an email stating your child's name, date of absence and reason for the absence. You can still send a handwritten note as well if that is easier for you.

We love volunteers and visitors on campus!

If you would like to volunteer, attend field trips and/or visit your child on campus for lunch, please complete the background check form below. If you already have a cleared background check on file, you do not need to complete again.
