Renner Report
Renner Elementary - Home of the Roadrunners!
Welcome Back!
We are off to a wonderful start to our school year!
This year Renner, English Landing and Prairie Point are piloting AVID during the 2018-2019 school year. AVID (Achievement via Individual Determination) focuses on teaching and reinforcing academic behaviors and higher-level thinking. AVID provides educators a structure for teaching students the academic habits they need to be more successful in middle school, high school, and college or career, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. AVID closes the opportunity gap before it begins.
Throughout this first school year of AVID, families will see K-5 classrooms adopt age-appropriate Organization systems to develop greater independence for ALL students including the use of daily visual schedules, student academic binders, and grade level planners.
New Security Features
If you want to enter the building farther than the school office or check out a student, you must register once at each building you visit by presenting a valid, state-issued ID to the school’s office staff.
Registration takes a few minutes the first time, because it requires an office staff member to complete the process. You can pre-register at your school office to avoid a longer wait when you come to visit the school.
Student Badges
Why student ID badges?
Proper Identification
Students, teachers and visitors to the building will all be properly identified with badges. For our students, this helps insure safety and inclusion.
Efficient Lunch Purchasing
Students will use their ID badges to purchase lunch each day. This dramatically cuts down on the time a student spends in the lunch line and allows more time for eating.
Transportation Safety
Each student’s badge will register each time he/she gets on or off the bus. This allows school administrators and necessary personnel to keep track of students and ensure they are arriving to school and home safely.
Library-Media Checkout
Students can use their ID badges to check out books and other materials from the library. This improves checkout efficiency and allows resources to properly be tracked.
Renner PTA National School of Excellence
Welcome back! We are so excited to start the new school year! Over the summer our PTA was awarded the recognition of being a National School of Excellence. Thanks to our board and members for doing such an amazing job!
We have a lot of exciting activities planned for our school. During our first PTA meeting, we discussed Room Party procedures and visions, the various committees that we need volunteers for, our new safety curtains, the new safety procedures for Renner, and student ID badges. Our next event is for Kindergarten families on August 23rd from 5:00-6:00pm at Fish Park, called Popsicles in the Park. Please see our Facebook page or go to www.rennerelementarypta.weebly.com for more information or email beepbeeppta@gmail.com. If you would like to become a PTA member, please look for a flyer to go home with your student. The cost is $8.00 and $10.00, if you would like a Buzz Book (student directory).
Park Hill Redistricting
In preparation for the opening of Hopewell Elementary and Walden Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year, and in order to balance our very different high school enrollments, we will be redistricting all of our attendance boundaries, from elementary through high school. Redistricting will help us continue to be one of the best districts around by protecting our low class sizes and making sure we can balance our resources.
The redistricting committee meetings will be open to the public, if you want to observe them. We will also host public input meetings and provide an online feedback tool to get your thoughts on the committee's ideas before the Board sets the new attendance areas. Watch for more information about those opportunities later in the fall. The Board plans to make its decision in December.
