History
They started off meeting with each other in a company called PayPal. The 3 friends (Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim) got a lot of knowledge from working here. Then they discussed making a website that would be easy and simple. Something that would make it easy to share also make videos. When the 3 musketeers decided to make their own website, they did it in Hurley's garage (aka the Office). On February 4 2005, YouTube was developed on the internet. In November 2006, Google bought it for $1.65 billion dollars.
Progression of YouTube
YouTube has changed as years have been passing by. They have been getting more and more viewers. When YouTube was started, they used to have a 10 minute limited to make videos. But the other idea was to have a contest when people would invite friends on YouTube. This caught viewers attention. Hurley, Chen, and Karim wanted to give them ideas. So they started posting short clips themselves.
Here is YouTube's look and logo.

Why?
Hurley, Chen, and Karim created YouTube because they wanted to keep things easy and simple on the internet. They also chose a software that was easy and free. YouTube has changed our lives. We can go on YouTube and search for example: how to bake cookies. As well as videos to fill up your day. Even when you're having trouble with a book that you're reading. Just check up a video to help you understand. Without YouTube, we wouldn't have as much joy as today.
The Third Guy
Jawed Karim wasn't completely in the YouTube idea. As soon as they started making YouTube, Karim left the company so he could finish his education in computer science. That's why he is considered the "The Third Guy".
