Spruce Run Joins Children's Day Festivities!
May 12, 2018
Spruce Run will be one of the seven sites to visit on Children's Day!
The event at Spruce is called, "History Alive: A walk through the Civil War Era".
This program is designed to take you back in time as you interact with reenactment historians. Come meet: Abraham Lincoln, Harriett Tubman, Mary Edwards Walker, Mary Elisabeth Bower,Harriet Jacobs and soldiers from the First Federal Division of the Army of Ohio. They will "walk" you through their life and times during the Civil War / Underground Railroad. Along with our historians, the barn will be turned into a civil war museum, and the classroom, a place to learn about crafts and quilting.
Feel free to print the flyer below to share with your staff, students, friends and family!
Arbor Day April 27, 2018: Support the Social Studies Standards and Informational Reading Standards with a Celebration!
The web site below provides information about J. Sterling Morton and his work to establish the celebration of Arbor Day. It provides free printable resources, ideas and materials for planning an event, as well as, several other free resources to create and inspire community service. This historical account is an excellent example of human systems and human interactions with their environment in a positive way. The materials are also an excellent springboard for discussions about civic participation and the process required to have a positive influence in our communities.
