The latest news - Sept 25, 2015

We're into the Swing of Things!

Summer tends be full of fun and freedom! As you get back into your normal routines of homework, bedtimes, etc. please take a moment to remind your fourth grader of the importance of staying focused during work time and being respectful listeners while others are talking. Our fourth grade team has noticed that this group is very active and chatty. If you could please talk with your child about their behavior and the importance of listening both to teachers and to other students, that would be very helpful in supporting our efforts at teaching respectful listening skills here at school. We appreciate your support with a little reminder at home!!

Some of this week's highlights include:

  • Becoming geologists as we observe and break down Mock Rocks.
  • Learning to add and subtract big numbers
  • Small group and partner reading work
  • Finally being able to download apps on our iPads!

Cogat Testing

As part of the district wide identification process for Vision 21

services, Wayzata Schools will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all 2nd and 4th graders between September 16 and October 23. Students in 3rd and 5th grade who are new to the district will also be given the CogAT during this time. Please make every effort to have your child attend school during the testing days.

Results from the CogAT tests will be used as one of the multiple information sources to identify students who will most likely benefit from the Vision 21/Gifted and Talented program. Student identification will be finalized and parents will have access to their child's results through Skyward Family Access by December 2.
