We the People

On Wednesday, Chandler City Councilmember Mark Stewart visited Mrs. Brianna Willits' 12th Grade Honors We the People Class at Hamilton High School. The City Councilmember spoke to students about what he does as a representative for the City of Chandler, how local government operates and his role in it. and he answered many questions the students prepared for him. Another great opportunity for students to gain an inside perspective on local civic duty and government!

American Youth Cultural Art Club

On Saturday, December 1st, Hamilton's American Youth Cultural Art Club presented a dance performance on the stage of the 2018 Arizona Asian Festival.

From costumes to practices, Chairman David Tang planned and arranged the event. President Lily Ma along with four other members, Catherine Fang, Esther Lu, and Diana Huynh participated in the dance. The whole show used with weeks of preparation with the hardships from all the members, not to mention Mrs. Kuo's substantial support.

Originating from the cave paintings of Dunhuang, China from over a thousand year ago, the traditional dance displayed a scene of flying fairies dancing elegantly through the sky with ribbons. The show became the spotlight of the festival; the club received numerous compliments and applauds from the audience afterward.

Our team wants more and more students who are interested in world culture or simply performing, to join our club. The next show is in February and you might be another star of the show! For more information, please see https://davidtang963.wixsite.com/aycac.

Jasmine Mercado from Chandler-Gilbert Community College spoke to both ELD classes about community college and university, and she also shared her journey to enter and be successful in college. Ms. Mercado is a graduate of Chandler High School, so they connected with her through that as well.

In addition, Alberto Esparza of Si Se Puede presented the ELD program with laptop donations in conjunction with State Farm Insurance; more laptops will be provided in the future as well. Mr. Esparza gifted one laptop to Ubah Hashi, who was ELD student of the year. These will be very helpful to replace the computers currently in the classroom for activities, such as Rosetta Stone, to build students’ language acquisition.

Demystifying the College Admissions Process for Highly Selective Colleges

Duke University in conjunction with the Chandler Unified School District is pleased to offer “Demystifying the College Admission Process”, a 60-minute seminar for area high school students and their parents on Tuesday January 22nd at 6:30 pm at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Highly selective colleges and universities have many applicants, low admission rates and use a holistic approach when making admission decisions. Steve McLaughlin, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions will address the topics of admissions trends, what highly selective schools look for, how decisions are made, and how to best prepare at this stage of your high school career. Mr. McLaughlin has been with Duke University for 18 years and is the Admissions Officer from Duke who works with students from Arizona.
