News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldogs,
I hope that you and your student(s) had a great first week back with eLearning and that you were able to enjoy some of the nicer, spring days during our waiver days and spring break. I know that spending some time outside has been a sense of calm for many, even when there is a chill in the air. I am sure we all look forward to more consistently warm weather in the coming weeks.
As you are likely aware, Governor Holcomb and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick shared the news of school closure throughout the remainder of the year. This news saddens us, but we know that it is best so that we can continue to promote health and safety for everyone. We will proceed to give district updates from Dr. Bourff and New Britton throughout our weeks of eLearning. I have heard from students, teachers, and parents alike that there are many questions regarding our typical end-of-year happenings. We are currently discussing and attempting to make some tentative plans to share as we receive updates from our governor.
Please be sure to review the FAQ section of our HSE website as this does provide answers to many questions. I would like to highlight a few points:
- If you have paid for a study trip/field trip, you will receive a Skylert next week with different reimbursement options. If you have any questions about reimbursement after next week, please use this form to email Mrs. Bouchonnet, our treasurer.
- Report cards will look different for the 4th 9 weeks of school due to eLearning. Teachers in grades K-2 will continue to evaluate essential standards with an S, P, or N. In grades 3-5 essential standards will be taught and evaluated with a 1, 2, or 3 to indicate "needs improvement, progressing, or mastery." More specifics are in the FAQ document previously mentioned.
- For the remainder of this school year, teachers will target instruction towards the most essential standards to equip students with the prerequisite skills for the next grade level or course. As we begin school next year, it is our job to meet students where they are, fill in any gaps through an adjusted curriculum, and move students in the direction that they need to be. Our teachers will spiral the review of these standards through their subjects and courses next school year. It is important to remember that all students across our state and much of our country are facing the same challenges that we are. We will meet these challenges head-on and address gaps in student learning as we move them toward the learning targets of the next grade level or course.
If you have questions regarding eLearning, please communicate with your child's teacher. Our priority is to make positive connections and help support your student's social-emotional needs during this time! Teachers have identified priority standards to cover; however, they understand the importance of students feeling safe and healthy in order to learn. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! Stay healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Morgan Cox – Fourth Grade Teacher
A Little about Me: I have been a teacher for nine years and currently teach 4th grade. I have a wonderful little family that includes my husband Caleb, our 10-month-old son Ezra, and our corgi Watson. Though the family I have built is small, I come from a large family. I have four siblings and a total of five nieces and nephews. It is very loud when we all get together, but a lot of fun too. I do not have any hidden talents unless you count being a master of Disney trivia.
What Brings Me Joy: My family and friends bring me the most joy. I am very lucky to be surrounded by so much love! I also enjoy trying new restaurants, shopping, reading a good book, singing, and baking. A silly thing that brings me joy are cute animal videos. I mean who can resist a baby sloth or a mother otter floating with its baby on its belly?
Favorite Food: I love macaroni and cheese, grilled salmon, pie, and ice cream.
Favorite place to visit: My favorite vacations have been to Disney World and San Francisco. My favorite place that I visit frequently is Tennessee.
