Take Care of Yourself
In chapter six of Onward, Aguilar focuses on self care. As we move through the end of our first quarter together and work diligently to effectively complete all of the tasks at hand in the best interest of kids, please take time to acknowledge your personal needs. We balance our careers with our physical, social, community, financial and spiritual needs. Sometimes- yes, it's true- we neglect our own well being. Aguilar describes four gaps- reasons- we don't take care of ourselves (150):
- We're missing information: Knowledge Gap
- We don't know how: Skills Gap
- We don't really think we need to take care of ourselves: Will Gap
- We don't feel we deserve to take care of ourselves: Emotional Intelligence Gap.
You deserve to take care of you! You deserve to be respected, to be liked, to be loved, to be wanted. You Are Amazing! Watch the video below. I challenge you to begin recognizing how amazing you, our students and our colleagues truly are. In your mailbox, each of you will find three post-it notes. The first is for you to keep, a reminder of how amazing you are. The second and third notes are for you to write a personal note to a student and a colleague. Spike their self-awareness, increase their emotional intelligence, show each other that we believe each of us is worthy of self-care. After all, KidsDeserveIt. YouDeserveIt!
