Assistant Principals' Corner

Homeroom Teachers,

Please review the email sent from Karen Hynnenin today regarding YTD Averages. Ashley will be working with you to resolve issues. Several of you reviewed the document for your homeroom and sent me an email with the specific issue and name(s) of student.

Samples of email content sent to me today:

"The gaps for Kingston are because mid year, he switched from Underwood to my class and I’m assuming that’s why his grades for Q1 and Q2 are blank."

"A. Cooks – he was brand new to school right before we were released. I did not have any reading grades for him."

The more specific the information, as show in these samples, the easier it will be for me to help rectify the situation.

No PLCs the next two weeks

We will NOT have PLCs the next two Tuesdays due to packing up the building. We will resume PLCs on Tuesday, May 5th (Cinco de Mayo).

Schoology tip

During PLCs today, a few ideas came up regarding how to get kids motivated to complete assignments on Schoology. Below are some tips...

  • Walk kids through your Schoology assignments on your Zoom live lesson so they are able to complete them independently
  • Add badges or Dojo points based on the activities they complete
  • Send reminders to parents the mornings of your live Zoom lessons

Reminder from Ms. Vogt

Hello Park Street Family!

Some of you may remember this from the beginning of this year, but if not, here it goes! Crayola has a recycling program called ColorCycle where they take any brand of markers, dry erase markers, and highlighters and recycle/repurpose them FOR FREE! All we have to do is collect the markers! I have already placed boxes in the break room in the main building and the Panther Den in the back for you to place your unwanted markers as you clean/pack up your rooms over the next few weeks. As of right now, the program is temporarily on pause due to the Coronavirus, but I will still be collecting the markers and will send them to Crayola when they are back up and running. So, instead of throwing them away, please place them in the cardboard boxes in the Panther Den and the Teacher’s Lounge in the front building (I will be putting out more boxes when I get to school on Monday). I just need any and all plastic markers, dry erase, and highlighters (but please NO CRAYONS OR COLORED PENCILS) placed in the boxes, then I will do the rest! Thank you for your help in saving the planet, one marker at a time J

Design Team

I will need to meet via Zoom with the Design Team to make final selections for playground equipment. We will probably do a meeting on Thursday at 7:30pm for anyone that can attend. Please email me if you are on the design committee and are available.

Also, we may go with a different furniture company in order to save money on our order and keep the extra storage cabinet. I may need you all to help me with color selections if we cannot get what we wanted in the first order.

GROW

Parent device and hotspot pick up

Below is a message I sent to parents regarding devices. Parents are able to pick up a device or a hot spot starting tomorrow if they need one. PLEASE reach out to all of your families today and communicate about device pick up. Our goal is to be at 70%+ Schoology use by the end of the week.

Student portfolios to next grade level

The question has come up about whether or not we need to create student portfolios of samples for next year's teacher. Don't worry about doing this for next year. I am not sure how reliable the data will be that would be shared.

Instead, please complete your student data cards with as much accurate information as possible. Please add teacher notes and details regarding student performance.

Supplies for students

Many of you have inquired about giving supplies to students (books, Pearson Math books, paper, pencils, etc.) I am going to ask that as you pack up your rooms, please create a ziplock bag or grocery bag with the students' name on it and any supplies you wish to give them so they can work on their Schoology lessons.

Please remind parents that they do not do the Pearson books in-place of the Schoology lesson, but instead these can help students as they work through their math lessons on Schoology.

Lastly, I need a crew of volunteers that are willing to help organize and distribute these student donations bags. Our goal is to try and distribute these at the end if next week. I do need one very organized person to take lead and be the point person for this project. Please let me know if you are interested.

Pack up schedule

Below is a link to the pack up schedule. Please remember the following as you are boxing up your items:
