Celebrating Women’s History Month
As we share stories of women’s history throughout the month of March, look for read-alouds from our community members as well as other contributions from our students and staff.
One example is the art from Brier Terrace Middle School Librarian Karen Kasprzyk.
“I’m really excited about this display, especially when the kids stop to see who’s on it! I wanted to pick diverse women from around the world who have made a positive impact,” says Kasprzyk.
How many women do you recognize?

Terrace High wins another First Amendment Press Freedom Award
Hawkeye, yearbook staff also nab individual awards at state competition
Mountlake Terrace High is taking a bow this week on the heels of adding several journalism awards to its trophy case.
For the ninth consecutive year – and 11th overall – Mountlake Terrace High’s school community earned the First Amendment Press Freedom Award from the Journalism Education Association. Hawks Student Media, (HSM), which encompasses all student media – from award-winning The Hawkeye newspaper, to the Tempo yearbook and broadcast operations. The school was one of only 18 nationwide to win this award.
Additionally, Hawkeye newspaper and yearbook students earned individual awards March 5 at the Washington Journalism Education Association 2022 Spring Conference and Write-Off Contests at Mercer Island High School. Hawk Broadcast Network, which includes Hawk TV, also won awards, including honorable mentions for news and features broadcast. It was the first in-person state conference since 2019.
Congratulations, Mountlake Terrace students!
Meadowdale High’s Beth Marriott inducted into Hall of Fame

Thinking it was a Friday afternoon staff meeting, Activities Coordinator Beth Marriott walked into Meadowdale High’s Great Hall to candy-covered tables and unicorn streamers while her family and coworkers congratulated her on a rare, but well-deserved achievement.
Marriott is headed to the Washington Activities Coordinators Association Hall of Fame. She’s one of three in the state this year to be inducted and from the cheers and surprise guests in the audience, it’s clear she’s more than deserving – one of her daughters flew in from West Virginia for the surprise announcement.
Congratulations, Beth and thank you for all you do to lead students through their time at Meadowdale High!
