MHS Newsletter
Our division was the first to plan athletics for students outside of phys ed class. High school volleyball tryouts were held and teams were chosen. High school boys coach Shane Orr and girls coach Tabitha Ogden, along with junior varsity coaches Ken Baker and Becky Harker were soon preparing their teams for play within the division. Games were scheduled and a limited number of tickets were handed out to coaches and players in order to enable social distancing rules. The fact that there is no league play hasn't hindered the competition, and our division schools (Cardston, Magrath, Raymond & Stirling) are hosting some great volleyball.
Magrath Golf Course and MHS were the host to the divisional golf tourney on Sept. 28. Students from across the division came to play. Magrath students held their own. High school boys champ was Paxton Maxwell, junior high girls champ was Bailey Blackmore and junior high boys champ was Max Chan. Both high school girls and boys teams came out on top. The junior high girls were also team champions. Congrats to you all.
Our own Mr. Simon has been busy offering band and drama classes to our students. Choir has started with the hopes of future performances. September 30 was Orange Shirt Day and our school came out to support.
The Learning Support Team, headed by Mrs. Donna Jean Wilde, who is also new to this position, is leading the weeks by having a hot lunch available for purchase on Mondays and Tuesdays. Our home economics team of Mrs. Jeanne Passey and her right hand gal Megan Bourne are offering up homemade meals for $5.00 on Wednesdays & Thursdays. These meals can be pre-ordered via anyone who has a westwind email account. The menu changes weekly so be sure to keep up with our announcements. Speaking of our announcements, they will be posted almost daily to facebook, instagram and to you all by means of Google Classroom.
Stay on top of your students attendance, grades, etc. with the Power School App and Google Classroom, to which you all have access via online. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to give us a call here at the high school office,
Principals Message
I would like to thank you all for a wonderful school startup! September was an
exciting month, filled with many positive learning opportunities for the students
and staff at Magrath High School. We know at times, it may not have been easy, but
in the end, we have been able to adapt and keep moving forward with all of our
courses, plus some of our extra-curricular programs like band, choir and sports.
There have been lots of questions in regards to how students can keep caught up on
their school work if they are at home because of sickness. I am happy to say that all
students have been enrolled in an online platform called Google Classroom. Using
this platform, students and teachers will be able to download and upload
assignments and projects, as well as communicate with each other through a variety
of medians such as video, picture and or text, in a safe and secure way.
All parents have been invited to these classes as well. Parents who agree to connect
with their child’s Google Classroom will receive weekly emails indicating
assignments that have been completed, what is coming up, and what still need to be
finished while their child is at home sick.
Thanks for your support as we work through all of these decisions that are being
made for us. If you have any questions or concerns pertaining to any part of your
child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact me, and throughout it all, as
Helen Keeler says, “keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.”
