Applying for State Aid

During the senior English class today, seniors meeting eligibility requirements applied for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship (as well as any other state aid program they qualified for) by filling out the YOUniversal application on the ADHE website. If your senior applied, they now have an ADHE account. I encouraged them to put their login information somewhere easy to find because they will be logging into that account to check the status of their scholarship application.

I will be mailing the transcripts and ACT scores (the ones the school has on file) to ADHE within the next few days. When ADHE receives and processes those documents, your senior's online account will be updated. Please be aware that there have been issues in the past with transcripts and ADHE. If a second copy needs to be mailed, please let me know. Like the colleges, they receive a lot of mail daily, and it is easy for things to get lost or be misfiled.

To complete the requirements for ADHE scholarships, you and your senior must complete the FAFSA. It is a separate application, and it is for federal student aid. Even though we applied for state aid today, ADHE requires that the FAFSA be filed before awarding any scholarships. The deadline to file the FAFSA is June 1, but please keep in mind that they will not offer your senior any scholarship unless the FAFSA has been filed; therefore, the earlier, the better! For information on FAFSA, go to, or visit my website.

The next meeting I have scheduled with seniors is January 27 during Religion classes. I will be presenting information on the local scholarships.

I encourage you to double-check academic scholarship deadlines, as well as the availability of privately funded scholarships, offered at each of the colleges your senior has applied to attend. UCA's Foundation Scholarship applications will be available online Monday, January 11th. Just visit

As always, please send me any questions you have.

Many Blessings,

Mrs. Breeding

2016-2017 FAFSA Application

Since your senior will be attending college for the 2016-2017 school year, you will be filling out the 2016-2017 FAFSA application, which became available January 1, 2016. If you filled out the FAFSA application before January 1, 2016, you filled out the wrong application. This happens sometimes as we are all extremely busy and want to get things marked off our "to do" list.

This link is a worksheet that will help you in filling out the online application.
