Message from Geordie

Afternoon everyone,

Week 1 has come and gone, and I am happy to report that we have had a really successful start to the term with happy and settled students, lots of fun and learning, a camp and a beautiful Welcome Mass to end off the week!

I am not going to lie… I am rather exhausted; however, our camp was a huge success and every Year 6 student should be really proud of the way they overcame fears, stayed positive, looked after each other and made the most of every experience! I even have photographic evidence of them doing the dishes!

I would like to thank all the parents for preparing their children so well, the staff who went for giving up their time before and during camp to make the camp so much fun and the rest of our staff for looking after the school while we were away. A great team effort!

With our Uniform Policy Review in its final stages can I just highlight our stance on haircuts. Firstly, a big thanks to the parents who have stopped cutting the lines, stars etc into the side of the haircut – much appreciated! The latest one I would like to address is the Mullet. I understand the ‘Dusty Martin’ is the new craze in boys’ fashion, however, it is one for the holiday’s and not for school please. We expect our students to be neat and tidy and avoid making school a competition about who has the coolest haircut. Over 90% of our students will be attending Kolbe in high school and this will not be accepted there either. I have had a gentle chat to some of the students this will affect and I am happy to say they have been really good about it – I think they knew they were ‘bending’ the rules slightly so if parents could help this get sorted, I would appreciate your support.

In terms of our 1 to 1 program, I am really happy with how this is progressing, and I thank parents for their patience. I hope to go through the new plan with the advisory Council in Week 3 and then communicate with parents after that.

Finally, to parents with students in 3YO and 4YO Kindy next year. Just a gentle reminder that we are very close to being full so if you need a spot, please get onto our new website and enrol your children as soon as possible. I would hate for people to miss out.

That is it from me, I am really excited about the term ahead!

Foundation Student Fire Fighter

The Year 3 classes enjoyed a visit form the Fire brigade on Wednesday and what a wonderful surprise for Mrs Whitford when a former student recognised her.

Fire fighter Jaime Meadon was a St Bernie's foundation Pre-Primary student in 1995, when Mrs Whitford was working in the class, fond memories of our Staff and her time here.

Athletics Carnival 29th October 2021

Our school Athletics Carnival is being held on the 29th October so we are hoping for a sunny day!

All parents/carers are welcome to come and spectate at our athletics carnival. Spectators are welcome to move around the oval and cheer for their children but must always stay OUTSIDE the bunting. The ideal spectating spot is on the southern side of the oval, under the trees.

During the track races students will be seated in their faction bays and parents/ spectators can position themselves opposite the faction bays (other side of the running track) on the oval, once again staying OUTSIDE the bunting and making sure that the running track is kept CLEAR. Parents, please ensure that any toddlers or younger siblings are closely supervised during this time.

Due to duty of care requirements the children must remain in their faction bays and are unable to sit with their parents. Children found outside their bay without a pass may lose points for their faction.

Pre-Primary and Year 1 parents may move around and spectate from the east side of the oval on the grass area in front of the basketball courts, however, please stay behind the bunting.

Children may only be signed out after the presentations and ensure to see your child’s teacher to sign them out.

The canteen will be providing a special $10.00 recess and lunch meal deal on the day:

Recess: Fruit Salad & Hash Brown

Lunch: Sausage in a roll with sauce, a juice box and an iceypole

The meals will be delivered to the student faction bays. Please order directly through the canteen.

Please find the timetable below:

Vinnies Christmas Appeal

The St Vincent de Paul Society conducts a Christmas Appeal each year and this year instead of making food hampers they are asking for donations of gift cards or gold coins.

We will be having a free dress day on Friday 26th November with the theme "Christmas Inspired" and a gold coin donation.

For any families wishing to contribute a gift voucher to the Appeal - please leave with Tracey and Katherine in the office. We ask that no gift vouchers be sent to the classrooms please, to make our school donation easier to manage.
