I could be persuaded....
What a busy 'looking forward' kind of week!
In school the children have impressed me this week. They are settling much better now and although it is fair to say they found it more difficult to come back after this last lockdown than they did the first one, they are doing well.
What are you looking forward to the most as we come out of this lockdown? More family activities? More shopping opportunities? More social gatherings? Or will you just be happy when you can ditch those uncomfortable and slightly annoying face coverings? Will you be glad when you can give your friends a hug? Personally I will be most glad when I can spend time inside classrooms with the children instead of just having to stand and wave at them from the doorway!
Some of the staff are also looking forward. To a time when we can perhaps walk through school without a one way system, greet parents at school events and take children into the hall for whole school worship. Some of them are looking forward perhaps to a change of year group, a change of classroom or a change of curriculum topics.
Some of the Nursery children are looking forward to being in the Foundation Classes. Some of the Year Two children are looking forward to being in the Juniors. Some of the Year 6 children are looking forward to moving on to their High Schools.
For some of us though, September may bring feelings of fear or stress. Once again, transition will be curtailed for Y6 children going into Y7 and for our new starters too. However, you can be assured that whatever new situation your child may be looking forward to - whether with excitement or trepidation, we will do our very best to help them face any changes or challenges they are thinking about.
Thank you for all your fantastic support again this week.
Have a really lovely long weekend everyone!

This week in classrooms
Stars
This week in Stars we have looked at the story ‘Supertato’ and lots of other ‘Supertato stories too. The children have loved hearing about the characters and particularly the ‘Evil Pea’. We have made our own Supertatoes, printed with fruit and vegetables, tried to catch evil peas with tweezers and tried to unlock and untangle the superheroes. The children have also been keen to spot what mischief the ‘Evil Pea’ has been up to each morning. In phonics we have looked at the 'y' sound and advertising logos.
FS/Y1
We think the children have been transformed into presenters from Gardeners' World this week as they have all shown a fantastic understanding on how plants grow. We have looked at how imperative verbs are used when writing instructions and then written our own instructions on how to plant a runner bean. The children have been so hands on and shown great confidence explaining to their peers how a bean grows. We can’t wait to see how the runner beans grow!
In maths, we have had lots of fun finding and investigating different ways of showing how to count in 10’s as well as using anything we can find to make and add equal amounts as well as problem solving involving multiplication.
In worship, we have looked at different ways of showing compassion and thought about the following questions: What acts of compassion do you see? What do you see people doing when someone shows compassion to them?
Year 2
What another busy week we have had learning in Year 2! We have enjoyed sharing the end of the
story, Mrs Armitage on Wheels, and re-writing our own version practising our descriptive writing
skills. In Maths we have focused on multiplication and practised our x2, x5 and x10 times table
recall. We have continued to learn about the famous, Hull-born, female pilot, Amy Johnson, and
found out about all the problems she faced during her solo flight to Australia. We had fun designing
our own moving vehicles (with axles and wheels) with a plan to start building them next week.
Finally, in Science we investigated seaside habitats and what animals and plants we might find.
Phew…I think we need Monday off to recover!
Year 3
Year 4
At the start of the week, we enjoyed outdoor learning, not only developing our football shooting skills, but also experimenting with primary and secondary colour combinations, chalking volcano scenes in art planning. Our multicoloured creations still managed to shine through after subsequent rain showers like volcanic rainbows. We are relating our times tables facts to finding fractions of amounts in maths and analysing impressive vocabulary and language features in volcano poems, before working on our own next week.
A huge thank you to Isla in class Asteroid for being a major part of a class worship on compassion this week. She explained that having grown her hair since the age of 2, she has decided, herself, to have it cut this weekend and is donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust. What a thoughtful and compassionate act, Isla. You will make another little girl very happy and we look forward to seeing the new you next week!
Year 5/6
This week in year 5/6 we have been delving deep into the many different countries of the Americas to complete our research and detailed paragraphs, all about their chosen countries. We cannot wait to see the final piece! In Maths, we have consolidated our learning or rounding whole and decimal numbers, and moved onto the much loved subject of fractions. Our topic work has moved to landmarks, with children creating Warhol inspired masterpieces, based on icon structures and landscapes. Our whole-class text has continued to intrigue us - why would children be digging holes in the desert as punishment, and what is their motivation? A good week everyone, as a treat, you can have Monday off!
