Parent University - next Wednesday!
MGSD middle school / high school parents:
This coming Wednesday, November 2nd, Mrs. Samone Graham (principal, Mooresville High School), Ms. Melanie Allen (principal, MiWAYE program), and Mr. Patrick Kosal (interim principal, Mooresville Middle School) would like to invite you to our second Parent University event of the school year. The event will be held at the Performing Arts Center at Mooresville High School from 6:00 - 7:30pm.
Parent University is a chance for parents to hear from MGSD school leaders about ways they can get involved in their child's school. Parents also get to learn about what is happening in each building and allows parents to provide feedback, as well. This optional event will allow parents to meet the MGSD middle and high school principals and hear about what the their schools have done so far as well as their upcoming plans.
If you can't attend Coffee with Mr. Kosal" events, this is a great after-school alternative to speak with MMS leadership. We hope to see you on Wednesday night at 6:00pm at the Mooresville High PAC!
Feed NC Food Drive - sponsored by Student Government Imp Time
Parents: the MMS Student Government Imp Time will be hosting the Feed NC food drive for this holiday season. We will kick off the food drive on November 2nd and it runs through November 18th..
The food drive competition will be through homeroom (Imp Time). The Student Council will be collecting and tallying food drive items on Tuesdays and Fridays (with the exception of Thursday 11.10 since we are out on that Friday) for the duration of the food drive.
We have homeroom prizes for the top 3 leaders for participation. Thank you in advance for helping our community.
Find the Feed NC Wishlist linked below, and as always, please contact Ms. Orlando (8th grade social studies teacher) with any questions or concerns. I will place a flyer in your mailbox with these wish list items found on the Feed NC website. Thanks!
Science Club + Exciting Field Trip Opportunity
Here is the information that was passed out to all science club members but the trip is open to anyone at MMS. Please email Mrs. McAllister jaclynmcallister@mgsd.k12.nc.us if you have any questions. We hope to see some new Red Imps at our next Science Club meeting!
Loss of Privilege List (LoP)
Effective today, Mooresville Middle School will be implementing a Loss of Privilege list. By being placed on the Loss of Privilege (LoP) List, students are identified as having forfeited the privilege to participate in any and all extracurricular activities involving Mooresville Middle School and Mooresville Graded School District. Assignment to the LoP list will last for 45 school days (One school quarter). Students are placed on the LoP List in one of two ways:
1) Being assigned Out of School Suspension in a school quarter
2) Being assigned In School Suspension three times in a school quarter.
3) Inappropriate behavior at any after-school activity.
At the end of the 45 days, students will automatically be removed from the LoP list and privileges will be restored.
This LoP list is very similar to the program at Mooresville High School - we believe this loss of privileges will be an incentive for students to act in a positive fashion at school AND will help them transition to the high school in a year or two. Any questions? Email or call Ms. Kim Brown (7th grade assistant principal).
Free Online Tutoring for Students
When they sign up, they will get an email from NCVPS with the link for their session, and a link to cancel or reschedule if needed. Please reinforce to students that they should be respectful of tutors' time and not be "no-shows" if they sign up for a time.
Students who do not have Internet access at home or need a quiet place to attend tutoring are welcome at the Selma Burke Community Center.
We hope your students will take advantage of this "EDvantage"!!
Congratulations!!

MGSD School Boundary Redistricting Information
Hello MGSD families,
With the opening of the new Selma Burke Middle School in August 2023, the Mooresville Graded School District will execute a reconfiguration of both the grades housed at each school level, as well as the attendance boundaries for each school. Beginning with the 2023 - 2024 school year, grade configurations will be as follows:
- Elementary Schools - Grades K through 2 (currently K through 3)
- Intermediate Schools - Grades 3 through 5 (currently 4 through 6)
- Middle Schools - Grades 6 through 8 (currently 7 through 8)
- High School - Grades 9 through 12
These grade and boundary reconfigurations will create a more even distribution of our student population, allowing space for future growth at each school.
MGSD started this redistricting process in August 2021 by vetting companies that do this work. MGSD partnered with Edulog in November 2021 due to their history of providing school bus routing and planning solutions to districts across the nation. Edulog researched both our district and town in preparation for the proposed boundary lines. After working through proposed scenarios with input from key stakeholders, the proposed redistricting plans are being brought to you for feedback and input.
Please visit our MGSD Redistricting Information site at https://www.mgsd.k12.nc.us/about-us/mgsd-re-districting-information. Once there, you will see the proposed redistricting maps, a Google Form to give feedback, dates for two informational meetings, and the timeline for approval of the new boundaries. The Google Form will close at midnight on November 1, 2022. Thank you for participating in this process and let us know if you have any questions.
Mission’s Christmas Angel Program 2022

We will be collecting wish lists until October 30, 2022. We are unable to accommodate late entries so, please help us spread the word that these lists have a hard entry stop.
The program is for children ages 0-18 providing the 18-year-old is still a student.
Children MUST be part of the requestor’s household.
Distribution of the gifts will be done on December 10, at one of the following locations:
Mooresville Area Christian Mission
Williamson’s Chapel
The Cove Church
Parents will receive notifications in advance of the location for present pickup
We will NOT be distributing bicycles this year in an effort to be consistent with gift value
This week's message from the MMS PTSO:
It's finally here! PTSO sponsored Halloween Fright Fest Dance TONIGHT, Friday 10/28 from 4:30-6:30pm in the MMS gymnasium. Costumes are encouraged for our costume contest but no masks or weapon-like props allowed. Bring money for $5 admission fee, concessions are $1-$2 each, and guess the number of candy in a jar game! It will be a spooky blast with music, dancing, games, selfie station and at the end of the evening - a costume contest with prizes awarded to the scariest, funniest and most unique costumes. So come dressed up in your fearsome fashion for a ghoulish good time!
Mark your calendars for the next PTSO meeting Wednesday November 2nd from 8:30-9:30am at MMS. We will discuss upcoming events, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. We hope you can join us!
Time is running out to buy Pizza Kits to support our fundraiser! Every week, we are getting closer to our goal but we really need everyone to work together and participate. Make sure to send your personal link to anyone who will support you and our fundraiser. Think of anyone you know who likes pizza…HINT HINT, that’s everyone! A special shout out to our first 5 students with a sale! Maloree F., Braeden T., Brooklyn D., Lillian T. and Kaitlyn R. each received free pizza and a drink at lunchtime today! There's still time to register and earn a reward. Sign up here https://bit.ly/MMS-Pizza The top selling 12 students each week (Mon-Sun) will receive a donut. And don't forget that the overall top seller will get to be principal for a day with our very own interim principal Mr. Kosal! Thank you for supporting MMS and the PTSO!
Start saving your spare change for the upcoming "Change Wars". Change Wars has been rescheduled to November 14-18. PTSO will be collecting money to help support our students. PTSO would like to sponsor programs and provide much needed supplies in the classrooms but we can't do that without your help! The lunch time group that collects the most money will get ice cream!!! We will also have a challenge between school staff that whichever staff member's collection jar has the most money will have to perform a consequence task. Stay tuned for which staff are participating and what they will have to do when we reach our goals!
Please join our PTSO facebook group. This online community is for parents/guardians of MMS students and MMS staff. We will share information from the PTSO, MMS and MGSD. It is also a place for you to connect with other parents/guardians and the PTSO. We hope you'll join us! Follow us on Facebook! Thank you for your support!

Next Week's Winter Sports home events + news:
- Thursday, November 3rd - home Varsity Basketball vs. Erwin
Also, tryouts for 7th grade girls basketball will begin on Friday, November 4th from 2:30 - 4:00pm and continue on Monday, November 7th from 5:30 - 7:00pm. Any girl trying out must be enrolled in Final Forms and both a parent and athlete must sign all the required forms. In addition, you must have a valid athletic physical on the State required form. If you have any questions please email annclark@mgsd.k12.nc.us
Blankets
Parents: if students bring blankets into the building when temperatures get colder (which is understandable: it's cold waiting for a late bus), please direct them to deliver blankets to their 7th period classroom during Imp Time OR store the blankets in their backpack.
Students can collect the blanket at the end of the day; they should not be walking around the school draped in them. Ms. Brown (7th grade assistant principal) has recorded a message to reinforce this policy for students that will air on the ImpTV news periodically.
EC parent night @ EMIS (November 15th)
Are you a Motivator??
The Motivators are ways for family / community members to volunteer time during the school day to monitor hallways and our campus grounds while also getting to know MMS students and staff. We love to have extra adult presence in the building to support our students and help out when needed. If you have at least one hour a week, we would love to have you volunteer.
Email Ms. Brown for more information. kbrown@mgsd.k12.nc.us
How to alert MMS of a student absence:
The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is: MMSAttendance@MGSD.k12.nc.us
Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. We hope this process will be easier on everyone instead of always sending a note with the student that gets lost so easily!
