Principal's Corner
Dear Lake Forest High School Family,
Happy Friday! Only two more Fanouts before the new year–and it is proving to be the most wonderful, and the busiest time of the year.
This Sunday is our Spaghetti dinner and holiday concert. This annual event returned last year, but is back in full swing this year. Our Band and Orchestra students will be taking the stage at 3PM, and our Chorus will be taking the stage at 7PM. For those who celebrate, this is a fun way to start the holiday season–music, food, and LFHS family!
As the semester comes to a close, I wanted to remind our community of our Communication Flowchart. If students have questions about their grades, an upcoming exam, or an assignment in class, it provides guidance to support a proactive conversation between teachers and students, and when needed, parents and administrators as well. It is important that we work together to ensure the young adults at LFHS are supported in building advocacy for themselves as well as responsibility, and this flowchart is a great tool to help cultivate those skills and our partnership. We are all in this together.
Another important reminder, early decisions and early-action decisions will be coming in the next couple of weeks for our beloved Class of 2023. This is a time full of anxiety, joy, sadness, frustration, and every other emotion you can imagine. The landscape of college admissions has greatly changed, and it feels like the benchmarks for who is and isn’t admitted to certain colleges are constantly changing and unpredictable. Please help me in helping our seniors–your neighbors, friends–in staying positive through the next couple of weeks. I always tell students that what is meant to happen…will happen, and that there is an amazing school and opportunity for each one of them. It may or may not be the one they want at this moment, and it may or may not make sense right now. The disappointing and confusing moments in a person’s life can often lead to acute clarity, mission, and above all, purpose.
Let our purpose remain the beautiful, individually gifted and talented students who come to LFHS every single day. Let us see them; let us celebrate them, and let us always believe in them.
Your proud principal,
Erin

SCOUTS NEED TO KNOW
Final Exam Schedule
First Semester Exams
Final exams will be administered in person. Since no students will have more than two course exams on a given day, there is no need for requests for altered times. Students are expected to engage in person during the time outlined in the schedule. If there is any extenuating circumstance that prohibits a student from participating in exams as scheduled, please contact the Assistant Principal, Dr. Alan Wahlert (awahlert@lfschools.net) or the Associate Principal of Educational Services, Dr. Patrick Sassen (psassen@lfschools.net). Additionally, make-up exams will be held in person.
Transportation
AM Bus routes will run on the Blue/Gold day schedule. The PM bus route will leave after 1:10 . If you have any questions about transportation, please email Ms. Walsh (mwalsh@lfschools.net).
Extended Time Accommodations
If a student has extended time accommodations and needs additional time following the exam period, the teacher will notify the Special Education Department or 504 Coordinator to determine a follow-up time for the student to complete the exam. This should take place during the following time frame:
Monday - Wednesday: IEP/504 only time slots
All other make-up assessment times on Thursday
When possible, teachers also have the option to monitor extended time with students. As we near the end of the first semester, students are encouraged to take advantage of the various supports offered at LFHS.
Expectations for Winter Break
We expect our staff and school community to truly utilize Winter Break for the purpose of relaxation, rejuvenation, and time with family and friends. To support this, work is not expected to be assigned to students during this time. Additionally, PowerSchool will be inaccessible for updated grades. Teachers will also be on a break, and may choose to respond to communications upon return in January.
Students on Quarantine/Ill
Students who are unable to take their final(s) during the scheduled time due to illness or quarantine should contact their teacher and the Instructional Director of the department to establish an agreed upon timeline for completing the exams(s).
