Book Fair
The Book Fair is Coming!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held April 11th-15th in the Library. Students will be shopping during their normal library time. You may choose to send cash or a check made out to Adams Elementary with your child. We will also be open during the Spring Fling on Friday, April 15th. Cash,check, and credit cards will be accepted during the Spring Fling.
In addition to our in school Scholastic Book Fair, we will also have an online book fair. Shopping can be done online from April 3rd- April 16th at http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/
All orders will be shipped to Adams to be sent home with your child.

Art Fair
Hello art ninjas and art ninja families! We have started the Fibonacci unit in preparation for our art fair theme this year, FIBONACCI! Fibonacci is a sequence of numbers that start with 1. You take the number before it, and add it to the answer. So, 0+1=1. 1+1=2. 1+2=3. 2+3=5. 3+5=8. And on it goes, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377… Then we gridded out this arrangement to see how it looks visually and we found this beautiful spiral that can be seen from the smallest cell size to gigantic galaxy size. It’s in hurricanes, shells, animals, plant life, lots of incredible things! Wait, Sensei, why are you teaching us math? Because artistically enhanced, we have hundreds of incredible art projects in the making all inspired from this beautiful Fibonacci spiral. Here’s a sneak-peak!
Kindergarten is creating seahorses! Can you find the Fibonacci spiral in the body structure of a seahorse?
1st Grade is studying Fibonacci flowers! Next time you see flowers, count how many petals they have. Some flowers like a peace lily have one, and a rose can have 144!
2nd Grade is studying chameleons! Did you know there are 209 species of chameleons in the world? 42% of those species come from Madagascar! We’re using circles and triangles mixed with our Fibonacci swirl of a tail to make some lovely lizards!
3rd Grade is catching a great wave in their seascapes with a Fibonacci wave and volcano scenes! Their choice of mediums is giving these art ninjas some creative freedom to stretch their our their art tool belts!
4th Grade is going out of this world with their Fibonacci galaxies! They’re taking on the messy charcoals and chalk to swirl their planets and stars into galactic masterpieces!
5th Grade is taking this project independently. We studied more in depth the vastness of Fibonacci and students have to develop their own Fibonacci composition-and the variety of projects we have in the works is amazing!
I’m so excited for all of you to see these great swirls of Fibonacci! Look up some Fibonacci videos and share what you as a family learn with us! Science and math are incredible resources for artists and deeply inspire working artists today!
Our art fair is on Tuesday, April 26th from 5:30 to 8:00. Put it on your calendar, mark it in your phone and if you would like to help support our program, consider buying your child’s art framed at the fair!
We will need volunteers for the Art Fair to help set up, tear down, and run the cash register. If you’re interested, please let me know! Thank you greatly for your time!

Student Council News
The week of February 22nd – February 26th the Student Council sponsored a Jar Wars Competition. Each class had a jar and the students were asked to put pennies or dollar bills (positive points) in their class jar and silver coins (negative points) in other classroom jars. The class with the MOST POSITIVIE balance at the end of the week would WIN.
This year Adams Elementary collected $1,722.15 from this competition. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser! All proceeds are being donated to Franklin Central’s Dance Marathon that will benefit Riley Children’s Hospital.
The Jar Wars results are in and the Top 3 classes were: 3rd place: Mrs. Messerschmidt’s class with $24.36 in positive points 2nd place: Mrs. Duerstock’s class with $32.71 in positive points 1st place: Mrs. Hughes’ class with $37.72 in positive points
Mrs. Hughes’ class voted to have an extra recess as their reward!
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART was a HUGE success!
This year we raised $11,169 for the American Heart Association.
Way to Go Adams Elementary!
The Top 3 Fundraisers for Jump Rope for Heart this year were:
1. Ashlyn Crothers ($645) in Mrs. Shuck’s 4th Grade
2. Sydney Paquin ($285) in Mrs. James’ 3rd Grade
3. Harry Batrich ($275) in Mrs. Soboleski’s 2nd Grade and Madelyn Batrich ($275) in Mrs. Kretler’s 4th Grade
The class with the highest % of student participation turning in donation envelopes was Miss Ormes’ 3rd Grade.
