Scottsburg High School Bass Fishing Club Has Had an Amazing Season So Far!

The Scottsburg Bass Fishing Team had quite the inaugural season. They fished 6 tournaments in the IBF south youth division having either 5 to 6 teams at each tournament. These tournaments usually consisted of 18-23 teams from all over the southern part of the state. Each tournament the top 3 teams and Angler catching biggest fish of the tourney received plaques or trophies. Right out of the gate at the first tournament on lake Monroe Scottsburg team finished in 1st place and also had big bass for the tournament. The very next tournament at Dogwood Lake, Scottsburg teams took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Big Bass. Next tourney on Hardy Lake, Scottsburg teams again were in the mix with a 2nd and 3rd place finish. They traveled to Nashville, Indiana on Lake Lemon for the next event and Scottsburg was back in the winner’s circle with a 1st place finish and Big Bass. Their next event was a night tournament on Patoka Lake. This was new for most of the anglers, but again these kids brought their “A” game and completed the 2nd clean sweep for the year, that means 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Big Bass! The winning team from Scottsburg weighed in a 5 bass limit, just a hair shy of 20lbs due to a dead fish penalty. This would compete with any adult tournament held on this lake during this time of year. Our last season tournament was on West Boggs where again Scottsburg found their way back to the podium with a 3rd place finish. As you can tell they had an amazing year and with all their accomplishments through the season the Scottsburg team of Alex Brown and Devin Spaulding won the overall points for the South division. They are now preparing for the state finals on Morse Reservoir on Sept 14th. 8 Teams from the south qualified to fish this event and Scottsburg will be taking 4 teams to compete against teams from the north division as well as 4 other teams form the south. I must complement our amazing booster club, the boat captains, the community of Scott County for sponsoring this program, and also Scottsburg’s AD Jamie Lowry for his vision to bring this to our school. Without all involved in this program we would not have accomplished what we have so far.
