Survey -- Please take a moment.
Athletic Director, Plano Senior High School - Feedback Survey
Plano Senior High School is in the process of selecting a new Athletic Director. This is an incredibly high profile position on our campus. An important part of the selections process is to gather input from staff, students, and community members. This information will be used to develop a leadership profile for the director who best meets the needs of Plano ISD, the Plano Senior High School Athletics Department, and its feeder school system. Your responses are anonymous; however, the collective feedback received will be shared with the interview committee.
Given the time of year, we are eager to begin our search quickly, so your prompt response is appreciated, preferably by the end of the day Friday, February 21, 2020.
Thinking of Writing Curriculum for the District????
We are pleased to share that we are now accepting applications for Summer 2020 Curriculum Writing. We strongly believe that the best curriculum writers are the teachers who teach our students, and ask that you consider applying to be a part of our extended collaborative teams.
Details:
- Each content area selects teams of teachers to work on specific projects, revisions, and new documents as indicated by district-level student data, teacher feedback, and new state-level requirements (TEKS revisions, new courses, streamlined standards).
- Curriculum writing is compensated at $25 per hour, and the number of hours per content area or course will be communicated prior to the work beginning in the summer.
- All previously selected curriculum writers will need to apply using this application if you would like to be reconsidered for inclusion on a team.
- Teams will be selected by April 15, 2020.
- Deadline for application submission is March 3, 2020.
If you have specific questions about the application process or specific content area work, please reach out to your content area coordinator.

Reminder from the Nurse
Plano is now rolling out its implementation of House Bill 496 on bleeding control stations in schools.
As the bill is written, it requires each district and charter school to develop and annually make available a protocol for school employees and volunteers to follow in the event of a traumatic injury. Each school must make available bleeding control stations for use in the event of a traumatic injury involving blood loss. The stations must be stored in easily accessible areas of the campus selected by the district's school safety and security committee or charter schools' governing body.
A bleeding control station must include tourniquets, chest seals, compression bandages, bleeding control bandages, space emergency blankets, latex-free gloves, markers, scissors and instructional documents developed by the American College of Surgeons of the US Department of Homeland Security. The station may include other medical material or equipment that is approved by local law enforcement or EMS personnel and that could be used for a blood loss injury.
In compliance with the house bill, Plano Senior High School has compiled all of the required materials into red bags which will be our designated bleeding control stations. You will find them hanging on the wall beneath the AEDs in each building.
At this time, hands on training will be provided to all first responders. However, if you are not a 1st responder and would like training, you may watch the attached videos (located at the end of this email) on chest seals, tourniquets, pressure dressings and application of pressure.

Summer Teacher Externship Program
Teachers and Principals, we are now accepting applications for the 2020 Summer Teacher Externship Program!
We have an ongoing mission to prepare students for the real world. Our goal is to prepare our students for experiences after they graduate from PISD. If we spend most of our time in schools, our knowledge of "real world" work might be limited. Never fear.
PISD has partnered with Capital One to create an opportunity for teachers like you to spend a few weeks of your summer immersed in a new environment as an extern in our community (and get compensated for your commitment). To learn more about the PISD Teacher Externship Program and how you can apply, visit the PL webpage.

Professional Learning for '19-'20 Semester II
Happy Spring Semester! I want to check in with everyone about the PL plan and remind you that you need 7.5 trade hours for the spring semester. Click here to find an updated PL plan for this year. We have only two people signed up for the “How Children Succeed” book study. If we don’t hit 5, we’ll postpone that study until the summer. Please sign up by January 27th if you’re interested by clicking the link in the PL Plan.
A note about the yoga sessions: The style will be "Yin Yoga w/Meditation" so it will NOT be a muscular "workout" but rather experiencing a practice of postures/breathing for "working internally."
