News and Notes
As this newsletter goes to print, there are only 49 days of school remaining. Looking at the calendar, the days are packed with learning, testing, activities and more learning. Keep checking the calendar on the school website for upcoming events.
Yearbooks--Sale ends March 13th. Each year, the Cottonwood office puts together a school yearbook. The book of memories includes individual student pictures, as well as a few event pages. If you have a few good candid shots, please feel free to share them with the yearbook editor, Mrs. Peay. peayr@usd385.org.
Parking Lot during spring sports!!!!
As you know, Cottonwood shares the parking lot with the District Stadium. During track and soccer season, AHS, ACHS, ACMS and AMS host track meets and soccer practices. This means that parking/traffic may be difficult during dismissal.
Track meets can start as early as 2:00. If at all possible, please plan on having your child ride the bus home. If your child must be a car rider on track meet days, please pay extra attention to the staff members directing traffic and follow their instructions. We will try our best to get you home quickly and safely.
Mark your calendars for April 10th, 18th, May 2nd and May 9th as Track Meet Days.

ARC: We will be going horseback riding on March 29th. Please send back the permission slip as soon as possible. All students will need to bring their helmet on the day of the activity. Let me know if you have questions.
Retention: Now is the time to be thinking about retention. If you feel your child is not ready to move on to the next grade level, let's set up a conference with the classroom teacher, myself and Mrs. Rooks. We will review data and talk about academic progress. Please also let me know if you have any questions regarding this topic.
State Assessment testing: 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will soon begin state assessment testing. Please make sure that your child is here during those times. Make sure that they get plenty of rest and have a good breakfast!! It is also important to encourage them to do their very best.
We have completed banana splits. Talk to your child about what he/she learned. Let me know if they need any additional support. We will start the group up again in the fall.
It is also a great time of year to start planning summer activities. If you need help finding a tutor or any additional support for your child. let me know. I will do my best to provide assistance.
Enjoy Spring Break with your child!! Let them relax and enjoy the fresh air!!

PTO News
PTO is an important part of our Cottonwood community. We meet monthly to share ways we can work with teachers to improve the educational experiences of our students. Please plan to join us Mar. 14th @ 6:30. We will be discussing our by-laws, Spring semester activities and
It's that time again. Our students will bring home Non-A-Thon envelopes in a few days.
From March 13th-March 31st, we are asking for your support. We aren't going to sell anything, bake anything or run anywhere. We are just going to ask for funding to finish out this year and start next year.
Last year, we raised over $10,000 and the money has been used to purchase snacks at AR parties; playground basketballs, jump ropes and soccer balls; extra computers in the classrooms; money for field trips; art supplies; scooters in PE; web-based reading programs and trees on our playground. This year our goal is $12,500. Be sure to check your child's backpack to see how you can help.
Thank you again for your continued support.
