The Schoolwide Community Read

Shouting at the Rain by Lynda Mullaly Hunt was chosen as this year's Schoolwide Community Read! Everyone is invited to read the novel. Ebooks and audiobooks are both available through the school library. Students should login by clicking on the green "Sign in using Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District" button. They should then click on the blue "Sign in with Google" button to sign in with their school @bmchsd.org account.

Students can also gain points for completing different activities and events. Students who gain enough points will be invited to an in-school field trip in the library at the end of the program. Students can join this Google Classroom to participate!

Community Read & Yorker Club

Students who are participating in the Community Read are invited to join the Yorker Club in the West Gym on Tuesday, April 13th from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM for a special event. Virtual learners should use the Google Meet link in the Community Read Google Classroom to join.

During this event Ms. Beleckas will share some information about Cape Cod, Massachusetts - the setting of the novel, Shouting at the Rain. Students will then be invited to play a "Massachusetts vs. New York Trivia Game". They will be provided different facts and asked to identify which state is being discussed.

The winner with the most points will be able to choose a free book from the library prize box. If a virtual student is the winner, Ms. Beleckas will email them the titles to choose from, and the prize will be labeled and left in one of the bins outside the main entrance doors.

After the event, participants will receive a participation slip, which they can submit in the Google Classroom for 40 points!
