Mrs. Boyd During Her Modeling Days
Teachers' Corner by Jill Michalek
Meet…..Mrs. Boyd
Style! Grace! Refined! These are the words that describe how Claudia Boyd does her job but did you know that those words also use to be her job? Before coming to Neil Armstrong as our Administrative Assistant (or Command Central Leader) Claudia was a ballerina and a model. This is more fascinating than it is surprising!
Claudia was with the Muhammed Ballet Company from age 12 to 27. You can look under her desk for the ballet shoes as proof. If Claudia looked at all familiar to you, it may be because she worked as a model from 1993 to 2012. Claudia eventually landed in Wisconsin where she worked in a high school for 5 years. She loved being near family but did not like the weather. (Not sure moving back to Illinois solved that issue!)
As a young girl, Claudia attended Cottage Grove and Bloom Trail schools. She loved school and was involved in everything from cheerleading, poms, basketball, track, and cross country.
Maybe part of the reason Claudia always seems to unflappable (does not apply to spiders) is because she was a single mom to three children whom she considers the most beautiful gifts she ever received. Her parenting advice is to avoid being your kids friends while raising them. The upside of that is now that her two sons and one daughter are adults they can be best friends.
Outside of school, Claudia likes to decorate her new home. Her mother likened her home to a museum because of her creative style. Claudia loves to cook! She taught herself by scouring through Campbell’s cookbooks. Now, everyone heads to her house for Thanksgiving and there are never leftovers when she makes her specialty, Mexican Burrito’s.
When not decorating or cooking, a perfect day for Claudia includes going off the grid and spending time in pajamas with chicken and movies. (Forensic movies is her genre of choice.) But, her house has to be cleaned first though!
Claudia is a recent newlywed and loves her new husband but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still appreciate her celebrity crush, Mr. Denzel Washington!
ITEMS OF INTEREST
- WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!! Please join me in congratulating Coach Dowdell and our Astro Soccer Team for winning the 2019-2020 Soccer Season!!!!! WE are elated and so happy for you and your Small Astros!!!! Thank you for bringing our first win in at least 5 years.
- Thank you Audrey, Kristen, LaTasha and Nate for throwing your hat in the ring for ESD #159 Tutoring. The investment of your time is greatly appreciated.
- Let's raise the roof for Audrey for sharing a resource that supports the district and school initiative against bullying with the kid friendly bookmarks. There is power behind surrounding ourselves with words of personal encouragement and affirmation. How thought Dear Colleague!!!
- Let us also raise the roof for Courtney. Dearest Astro, what a COOL WEBSITE, Story Time from Space!!! Where do I begin???? It supports STEAM. The storyteller is a female astronaut literally in space reading a fictional story about a female African-American student with dreams and aspirations that is reflected in her choice of who to represent at school for career day. Not to mention is an additional resource and integrative tool that supports Earth and Space Science as one of three Science strands from NWEA.
- Thank you Jabari and Courtney for representing NA for RRW and Bully Prevention Month. We appreciate your leadership and sharing pertinent information so we can all support ESD #159.
EvaluWise: Sending a friendly reminder that your post-conference form and teacher self evaluation must be completed no later than 24 hours prior to meeting with your evaluator. Please take care to complete your teacher self-evaluation electronically. If you need assistance please ask. Any forms not completed by the 24 hour timeline could result in the rescheduling of your post-conference meeting.
Fall Party:
- If you have students who are not participating in the block party and/or fall party for behavior or religious reason, please email Michelle and I by the end of the day Tuesday, October 29th.
- Please take care to send me a copy of your family notification regarding next week's Fall Party. I thank those who took care to do so.
For Health Sake:
- It is imperative that all students wash their hands right before entering the Multipurpose Room for lunch. Michelle sent an email in this regard. Our efforts to stay and remain healthy rests on this most crucial self-care need from both our Tall and Small Astros.
