Open Enrollment for Benefits coming up - April 29th
The email below was sent to all employees from Jeff Jones. Once the portal is open you can do everything online except adding flexible spending and you will need to have a face to face with an agent. Everyone has to go online or see an agent in person to accept or decline the insurance. I think May 13th - 17th is when the agents will be in the building if you choose to talk face to face or if you are making changes or adding something. The online portal is good if everything is staying the same or you are declining the insurance.
The open enrollment period for employee benefits for the 2019-20 school year will commence on April 29th.
Prior to that date, please access and review the updated employee benefits brochure by clicking HERE.
There will be a benefits meeting for all interested employees in the cafeteria at Collierville Elementary School on Tuesday, April 16th, at 4:45 pm. Representatives from both Human Resources and Shared Services Benefits will be there to share information and answer your questions.
Thank you for making Collierville Schools great!

More information about my mother and her surgery!
The appointments that we have been to so far have been leading up to the next couple of weeks. Of course, just to fill out paperwork and get bloodwork completed is a trip to Vanderbilt!
April 16th: Stage 1- Bone markers are placed in the skull for the platform that will mark where they will drill into her brain for the next two surgeries. On this day they will perform a CT scan and an MRI with her sedated so as to be able to "map" her brain so they know where to put the markers.
We leave on April 15th in the afternoon and should be back late April 16th but it could go into April 17th depending on her!
April 24th: Stage 2A - They will drill on the left side of her brain and place a lead in her brain that will be ultimately hooked up to a battery in her chest but for now they will just place it under her skin. She will have to stay overnight in the hospital and can come home the next day if all is well.
We leave on April 23rd in the afternoon and I will not be back till Monday the 29th depending on how well she does. Once this surgery occurs she has to be watched 24/7. They said to look at it as if she is a 6-year-old child who can dress herself, eat by herself, etc. but as parents, we would never leave a 6-year-old child alone because they could make some bad decisions not knowing they are bad decisions. This state of confusion can be one day or up to a week depending on the patient.
May 1st: Stage 2B - Same surgery as 2A but it will be on the right-hand side of the brain.
We leave in the afternoon of April 30th and I should be back on May 4th if all goes well. Same happenings as the first surgery as far as 24/7 watch.
May 9th: Stage 3 - This is when they will make a pocket in her chest to house the battery and will then hook up the leads they have put through her brain to the battery but they will not turn it on. This is a one-day surgery.
We will leave the afternoon of May 8th and I should be back to school on May 10th if all goes well.
Sometime, either the last week of May or the first week of June they will schedule an appointment to turn the DBS system on and take a CT of her brain to make sure the wires are in place. If they are not, who knows, but I will be over it by then!
Thank you to everyone that has prayed and sent well wishes to my family! We will need LOTS of prayers in order to deal with all of this surgery but especially the "after" surgery issues! That is when we will need LOTS OF PRAYERS!
Thanks,
Cindy

FLEX TIME for 2019-2020
2019-2020 FLEX Time Quick Glance
Sheryl Johnson -s1johnson@colliervilleschools.org
Audience: All Certified Personnel
As outlined on Collierville Schools’ 2019-2020 Instructional Calendar, November 25 & 26, 2019 and January 3, 2020, are designated as required professional development days for all certified personnel. In lieu of working on those days, all certified personnel must satisfy their professional development requirements by attending activities in which flex hours are granted. Certified personnel must earn 18 flex hours between May 27, 2029—March 31, 2020. Flex hours will only be awarded for participation in professional learning activities provided and/or approved by Collierville Schools and documented in My Learning Plan (MLP). All flex hours must be earned outside of the contracted work day.
Collierville Schools will facilitate a limited number of professional learning sessions awarding flex credit in the summer during the weeks of June 10-14 & July 22-26. In addition, flex credit will be awarded for summer sessions taking place outside of the district that are initiated by ColliervilleSchools’ Central Office (examples include, but are not limited to—TDOE Standards Training, PLTW, AP Training, etc.). Summer sessions will be available for participants to registration in MLP early May.
** A district-wide email and FLEX TIME FAQ outlining all details and requirements is forthcoming from Sheryl Johnson.
