Burnette Books
December 2014
Tumblebooks
Use the Gwinnett Public Library, of course! You can access Tumblebooks for free using the GCPL website. You can choose to show a book in your classroom using your projector, or you can have students access this website and watch books using your classroom laptops or heading to one of the computer labs.
GCPL has great services for teachers, and as a Gwinnett teacher, you can get a library card even if you don't live in the county! I was so excited when I heard about that! As you can imagine, I signed up right away. GCPL is an award winning library system. We will keep featuring different services each month!
eBooks
We added some non fiction titles to enhance your curriculum, such as several titles about life in the colonies, the American Revolution, and books about cells, bacteria, and genes with Max Axiom.
However, we also added many fiction titles for the students to explore, including some Jake Maddox books, DC Comic graphic novels with Batman and Superman, and the entire Princess Candy series.
I plan on adding some more eBooks through Follett before the break, targeting popular fiction titles for our students in grades 3-5.
If you'd like to schedule a time for your class to come in and explore the new eBooks and how to use the eBook system, just email me! I'd also love to work with any students in your class who'd like to use the app on personal devices.
Fireside Reading
- Teachers must stay with their classes.
- Please use the middle of the media center, not the soft seating. This will allow students and classes to continue regular check out.
- Students may bring a pillow or stuffed animal if you wish, but please no snacks or drinks.
