A Message from Mrs. Franciosa...
This week we will celebrate Read Across America with various classroom activities and a school-wide Spirit Week. Please read further for the details for each day of Spirit Week. This is a great time for a family trip to the library or book store. Children love to explore all different kinds of reading materials--fiction and non-fiction books, comic books, cookbooks, poetry, etc. Enjoy reading together!

our fantastic 5th graders
February is always a busy time for 5th grade! We met with our first grade buddies and set time aside for some special learning projects.
In ELA, students are learning about Natural Disasters and how our knowledge of them can keep us safe. They are researching famous natural disasters and will present their findings to the class.
Science has been a blast as we’ve been learning about the biomes of our world and how organisms can change the ecosystems. Students are learning how our own actions affect the environment and what we can do to preserve and protect the community we live in.
On February 8, while other grades celebrated the 100th day of school, fifth graders celebrated their 1,000th day of school. Congratulations fifth graders--another 1,000 days and you will be seniors!

pv transportation audit/walker survey
Attention ~ Parents/Guardians of Walkers!
Parents/Guardians of Walkers received this email from Dr. Russell :
Dear PV Families,
The District is conducting a transportation audit and as part of this project, we would like to learn your views on transportation. You are receiving this survey because your child is an assigned walker to their school. As part of the audit, walker assignments are being evaluated. There is a consideration to shift all assigned walkers in kindergarten through grade 2 to be bus riders. There is also the possibility that assigned walkers in grades 3-5 could become bus riders if the identified distance for walkers is decreased. In other words, at this time, students are assigned to be walkers if they live within a 1 mile radius of their school (provided there are safe walking routes, i.e. available sidewalks). There is a consideration to change this distance to possibly 0.5 miles or to bus students in grades 3-5. Data continue to be considered as part of the transportation audit. Your views regarding walking/bus riding are important to the school district.
*Please submit one survey response per walker child. Please complete by Wednesday, March 1st.

Flexible Instructional Days (FID) in 22-23

On a FID day, instruction will be virtual. FID assist schools in meeting the required 180 student days. PA Schools may use up to five (5) FID per school year - in PVSD, we will utilize FID when all 3 inclement weather days built into the district calendar are used.
