As required by the Illinois School Safety Drill Act (105 ILCS 128/20), during each academic year, schools must conduct a law enforcement lockdown drill. This drill shall be no later than 90 days after the first day of each school year.

Law enforcement lockdown drills must be conducted on days and times when students are normally present in the school building and must involve participation from all school personnel and students present at school at the time of the lockdown drill. The appropriate local law enforcement agency shall observe the administration of the lockdown drill.

Also required by the Illinois Safety Drill Act, we must notify you about the upcoming law enforcement lockdown drill and provide an opportunity for you to opt your child out of the drill.

The law enforcement lockdown drill will take place at Rose School on Sept. 21 at 1 pm. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please contact your child's teacher.

During Safety Week, we will also be conducting a fire drill, a tornado drill, and bus evacuation drills. We remind our students that these are just practice to help us be prepared if there ever is an emergency.

Weekly Shield (Covid) Testing started last Monday for students who did not opt out. Students who opted out did not participate. Students who were not able to produce a drool sample received a note to bring home so parents were aware. If you want to change your child's participation in the Shield Testing (opt in or out), please contact the school office and understand that it will take a week to activate the change.

220 Educational Foundation Update

Barrington Horticultural Sciences is the next major project from the foundation. This initiative will expand the current horticultural sciences curriculum and renovate the greenhouse. The project will modernize the existing facility with equipment and technologies to support students as they learn the principles of horticulture and sustainable food production, allowing for local partnerships with community organizations. This approach will foster cross-curricular applications with the culinary/food service program as well as offer opportunities across science, entrepreneurship and engineering. There will be more to come throughout the year on our newest major project. Want to learn more? Click Here to Donate.
