Counseling Corner
“Your child is so well-behaved. She is an absolute delight to be around!” Have you ever had a teacher tell you this? But then, the moment they come home, they collapse. Meltdown, give attitude, cry, or are just overall unpleasant? It’s a thing, it’s real, and it’s called the after-school restraint release. When kids get home from school, they can finally let go of all the feelings they’ve been holding inside. They spend the entire day at school working hard, abiding by the rules, and living up to social standards, and it’s exhausting. When kids come home from school, these bottled-up emotions are sometimes released. Here are some ways to help kids after a long day at school who are experiencing big emotions.
Stay curious about their needs. Are they hungry, tired, or just need a moment?
Create some space for them to decompress. Give them time and space to relax (i.e. ease up on the questions)
Lend them your calm.

Word From WSFEE
WSFEE wants you to see how grants are 'in action' at our schools. Have you seen the Communication Boards up at all D101 schools? Did you have an elementary student signed up for the STEM Club? Have you read a good book found in a school or classroom library? These were all supported by WSFEE grants. Visit wsfee.org or follow WSFEE on Facebook or Instagram (@wsfee_d101) to hear about events, sponsorship, and donation opportunities.
