Good Evening Mustangs!
This week we welcomed all our newest members of “THE MUSTANG HERD” by inviting our 5th graders to come visit AMS and have lunch. Students were able to interact with new friends and some of our current middle schoolers. It was a fun community building event we were able to enjoy together.
6th and 7th grade students that earned the privilege to attend the activity night on Monday, May 23rd will be given a wrist band on Monday to indicate they are able to attend. This event will run until 5pm, please make sure you arrange a ride to be there promptly at 5pm.
June 2nd we are having our 6th and 7th grade awards assemblies during the school day. This event is for students only. If your student wins an award we will send it home with them the next day.
June 9th is our 8th grade Bridging Ceremony from 6-8pm! This is a celebration of all of our 8th graders as they advance to Avondale High School. This event will happen Rain or Shine!
If weather permits, we will be outside on the middle school football field, please bring a lawn or camping chair as our bleacher space is very small. Once the event is over, we will transition behind the school to a small ice cream reception with photo opportunities and yearbook signings.
If the day brings rain, we will move the event into the main gym. Unfortunately, if we do this, we will have to limit the spectators to one guest per 8th grade student. I would like to offer more people the ability to attend but our gym capacity is much smaller than the stadium as you can understand. I will be sending more information on this event over the next two weeks.
Have a great weekend!
With Mustang Pride!

STUDENTS LEAVING EARLY
Recently, we have had students being called out a few minutes before the release bell. This increase in call volume and disruption in classes has become quite disruptive. We always want to respect parents requests to have their child released from school, however for the safety of students, and to minimize disruption, we will not be releasing students early after 2:15pm, they will be released at 2:46pm.
The procedure for calling your student out early is:
Call the attendance line (248-537-6310) before 11am and leave a message stating the following: name of your student, time of pickup, make/model/color of pick up vehicle
Safe Ed will walk students to the vehicle.
Or call the main office(248-537-6300) between 11am-1:30pm. Please leave a message if you cannot get through, the secretaries monitor their email and will get the message. This way we can give students a pass in advance and have them ready. We understand emergencies come up and will handle on a case by case basis.
We appreciate your cooperation with this policy.
DROP OFF/PICK UP UPDATE
NO student drop offs/pick ups in the bus loop before or after school if any buses are present. This creates a dangerous situation for the students getting on and off the buses.
Please watch your speed driving around AMS and GATE parking lots. Nearby residents have expressed concern about the speed and their safety.
Thank you!
AMS Administration
Avondale Middle School Student Pick Up/Drop Off Protocols
This is a friendly reminder that we strongly encourage parents to adhere to safe and proper school drop-off and pick-up procedures.
For the safety of our students, NO student drop-offs/pick-ups should occur outside of the school parking lot, particularly in adjacent residential areas.
We want to specifically draw your attention to the situation on Cone Avenue behind the gate separating the Avondale Middle School parking lot and the new residential area. The City of Rochester Hills recently installed No Parking/Stopping/Standing Till the End of the Street signs that the Sheriff’s department has periodically enforced in recent months. In addition to ignoring the posted signage, drivers using this area for pick-up/drop-off continuously block driveways, mailboxes and fire hydrants. All of these practices are prohibited by the Michigan Vehicle Code Act 300 of 1949. (mcl 257.674)
Most importantly, using this area for student pick-up/drop-off creates a hazardous situation for students that use this area to walk to and from our school.
We are asking that if you are currently using this area to pick up or drop off your student please stop. The residential area past the gate is not intended for this use. Please adhere to the newly installed traffic signs and follow the Avondale Middle School pick-up/drop-off protocols established with student safety in mind.
We look forward to and anticipate your cooperation in this matter.
