Mariner Minutes

March 24th, 2022

Principal's Message

We have made it to spring break and the home stretch of the school year. I am looking forward to all of the fun events coming up in the months of April and May. I hope everyone is able to recharge and rest over spring break and if traveling...safe travels!

Couple of important reminders:

Report cards will be sent home tomorrow.

Our Spring MAP testing window will open beginning April 19th.

As we all know, spring in Northeast Ohio can be tricky weatherwise. We will try to have outdoor recess as often as the weather allows. Please send your child(ren) with jackets in the event the temperatures just aren't warm enough to be without. I would prefer students be able to take a jacket off than not have one at all or worse, not be able to go outside to play because of no jacket. Thank you!

Worldwide Consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Friday, March 25th at 12pm

On March 15, 2022, Pope Francis announced that he will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during the Celebration of Penance on Friday, March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. Pope Francis was asked to make the consecration by Ukraine’s Latin Rite Catholic bishops amid the invasion of their country with the intention of an end to war and for peace.

Bishops around the world, including Bishop Daniel E. Thomas of the Diocese of Toledo, will join Pope Francis in this consecration. Bishop Thomas encourages all the faithful and all people of good will to join in the intention for an end to war and for peace.

The Diocese of Toledo will livestream the consecration and can be joined here: https://www.facebook.com/dioceseoftoledo

As a school we will hold a moment of silence with a short prayer for peace during the worldwide event.

Upcoming Events

Preschool Corner

Our preschool 3s class focused on Eric Carle’s book “Little Cloud” as part of their theme on weather. Turned out to be a great weather week with a lot of examples of weather. These are some very creative interpretations of clouds!

Preschool also got to explore density with a fun demonstration of precipitation as part of STEM!

3rd Grade participated in a STEM activity checking out the different states of matter and found out what non-Newtonian fluids are. The above flier includes a QR code that links to how to do that activity at home.

Spotlight on Student Work

Two spotlights this week. Sixth grade has been on a roll with some fun and interesting activities. They have been diving into ancient civilizations and recently have focused on Ancient Egypt. Students took their own attempts at designing cartouches, or etched, ornamental tablets, which in this case include hieroglyphs.

Fourth grade were diving into the nuances of the English language and learning about idioms. Here are some fun examples of illustrations of some well-known idioms.

Covid Symptom Screening

Last year, we were able to remain in-person learning in large part due to the vigilance of our families by doing daily screenings of symptoms of children before arriving at school. The goal is to again remain in-person and pre-screening for Covid-19 symptoms prior to arriving at school is a great strategy to stay in-person. Please check daily for symptoms. If your child is not feeling well, exhibiting symptoms, and/or seem sick, please keep them home and allow them to rest and get healthy before returning to school. To return with after any Covid symptom there needs to be 24 hours symptom free without use of medication. We will make accommodations necessary to ensure your child is able to get missed work and get caught up upon returning.
