Remind Me, Who's New at Cherry Park?
Class assignments went out and they should arrive in the mail by tomorrow. With that in mind, here are our new staff members at Cherry Park. 1. Norma Vargas--Is our new fifth grade teacher who will be the English partner teacher with Mrs. Lecolant. She is also bilingual (Spanish) so she is a great addition to our school. 2. Ewa Mielczarek Leon--Is our new fourth grade Spanish teacher who will team with Mrs. Preston. Mrs. Leon is actually trilingual (Spanish, Polish and English.) She is the wife of Mr. Leon who has been teaching with us for the past five years. 3. Maxime Brizard--Will be the new third grade French teacher teaming with Mrs. Parrish. He is from France and has taught in a variety of settings. 4. Meriam Polanco--Is our new Spanish Instructional Coach and Interventionist. Ms. Polanco taught with us previously as a Spanish immersion teacher. She taught virtually for the past two years and we are blessed to have her back. 5. Alex Mahoney--Will be a part-time resource teacher working with Dr. Nichols. This will be his second year in the district. 6. Marissa Holdaway--Is our new part-time music teacher in addition to Mr. Bratton. She will work with our kindergarten, first and second graders this semester and our older students second semester. She has taught music for six years and brings lots of experience to our school. 7. Magalys Linares--Will be one of our Unique Pathways 3 teacher assistants. Mrs. Linares, a native of the Dominican Republic, knows Spanish, French and English. She has worked in the district for five years and has also helped teach special needs students for fourteen years in New Jersey. 8. Caroline Brouillet--Is our new French assistant in kindergarten. She is a college graduate with a degree in French and is highly fluent in the language. We have a couple of tutor positions and lunch supervision positions that we are working to fill as well. We are excited for each new staff member who joins our Cherry Park family. They are such great people who will make a difference in our children.
Strength and Blessings,
Mr. Maness
P.S. Parents, class assignments went out this week to those who completed their child's registration. We ask that you complete that in order to receive your child's class assignment.
Open House Reminders
Our Open House will be this Thursday, August 11 from 5:00-7:00 PM. It is a drop-in format and parents are welcome to come anytime during then. You can park in our parking lots and on the right hand side of our car loops. Staff members will be located throughout the building and will be available to answer questions.
Open House Checklist
a. Visit both of your child's teachers (English and Spanish/French). French and Spanish teachers won't speak English but they will be excited to meet you.
b. Fill out a transportation form. Be sure your child's teachers know how he/she will go home on Day 1 and if that changes after that time.
c. Pick up your car tags. Everyone needs to get car tags because there will be days that we will have an early dismissal and no Challenger. We will give out up to four and if you need more, you can get those in the Main Office after Open House. Anyone picking up your child needs a car tag. (Blue tags for the Caswell Car Loop and Green tags for the Cherry Road Car Loop.) Car Tag tables will be located on C Hall and A Hall near the Main Office.
d. Pay $35 Technology Protection Plan Fee. Know that you can also request a waiver if there is a need. (See above for more details and remember you can pay it online.) You can pay in the Media Center.
e. Complete your child's registration if that has not been done. Come to the office area to do that. We will have computers available.
f. For Sale--We have some t-shirts and yearbooks from last year and those will be on sale near the main office.
g. Visit Representatives of Related Services. We will have representatives from Transportation, Food Services, Challenger After School Program, Parent Teacher Organization, and Girl Scouts. Representatives will be located in the cafeteria. Nurse Love will also be in her office (beside the main office) for any medical questions.
Notes and Reminders
a. Parents have completed the technology forms that were a part of new student and returning student registration.
b. Payment of the $35 Technology Protection Plan Fee (or a waiver was completed). See note below about fees and charges. The TPP can be paid at school (during Open House) or online at https://rockhillsc.csiepay.com/Views/Payment/Pay.aspx
c. Students complete their Digital Citizenship lessons with their teacher.
d. Teachers have shown students how to use their devices.
This process will take a few weeks to work through and your child's teacher will keep you informed when the devices will come home. Parents can opt to have their child's device stay at school.
2. Device Fees for 22-23 School Year (District Guidelines)
- $35 – Technology Protection Plan covers one damage in the 22-23 school year. Additional damages after the first will be charged and paid to CPES.
- $40 – Replacement charger. If students need a charger, families will be charged by CPES. The $35 TPP DOES NOT COVER the cost of a replacement charger.
- $18 – Laptop Case replacement. All devices are expected to be in cases AT ALL TIMES. If students need a replacement case, CPES will charge the student $18.
3. Safety Volunteers--We would like to have some additional help with arrival and dismissal on the Cherry Road Car Loop in the mornings and afternoons. Volunteers would help walk with little ones and help monitor kids outside during this time. If you (or someone you know) might be interested, please complete the following form. Know you can volunteer in whatever way that suits your schedule. We especially need help at the beginning of the year. We will also provide training to know what to do. https://forms.gle/bBZQhSQ8ViCT6eRp9
4. Football--If you have children who may want to play, see the flyer below for more information. Practice starts tomorrow from 6:00-7:30 on Field One (by the playground) at Cherry Park (The Park). Contact Coach David Bell at 803-412-2475. This is sponsored by Rock Hill Parks and Recreation.
Positions Open
1. Two Tutors (25 hours a week)--Noncertified
2. Substitute Teacher--Noncertified. Know that you can select only CPES and you can let us know if you want to only sub for particular grades or days of the week. We have full-time positions and part-time positions.
3. Two Lunch Supervision Positions--Noncertified. We are working to limit our staff's lunch supervision responsibilities so they can have unencumbered time during their lunch time. As a result, we are hiring two people to help with lunch supervision from 10:30-1:30 each day. These will be new positions for us this year.
Beyond this, here are a couple of positions in our district that may interest you.
1. Related Arts Teacher for Central Childhood Development Center--Mr. Ward is looking for someone to teach art or music or another related arts a few mornings a week.
2. English Language Teacher at Adult Education--This position is working with adult English as a Second Language students and it is a part-time position. More details for both positions are on our district website.
