Parent Education Night
Tuesday, April 13th
We're hosting our first interactive workshop series! This will be an opportunity for your family to explore a few of our programs. You'll have the option to choose which breakout sessions that you want to attend. In these breakout sessions, you'll have an opportunity to learn about our programs, ask questions, and learn at home tips.
We'll have the following sessions:
- Lead Occupational Therapist(OT)/Physical Therapist(PT) team lead Leslie Micus will briefly explain the OT and PT role in the school setting. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding OT and PT services in the academic setting.
- Lead Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) and a campus SLP will show how basic cooking activities such as baking a cake, or making an sandwich can incorporate a variety of speech and language skills! You'll learn how to use functional activities across ages to expand language and communication at home.
- Lead Visually Impaired (VI) teacher and a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) will explain the differences between Vision (VI) and O&M services within LISD. They will cover the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), what ECC entails and how it impacts our students. Session will conclude with a parent Q & A
- Our Assistive Technology (AT) specialists will discuss how AT is incorporated into Universal Design for Learning for both General Education and Special Education Students, how AT is considered and implemented in the IEP, and how to find more resources!
You'll be able to choose two sessions to attend. All sessions will be recorded for later viewing as well. Don't worry, if you don't see a particular department this time around, we'll be offering more workshops in the future!
