Curriculum Corner
Reading:
- This week is Week 4 of Unit 4. We are using informative text to work on context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words in our reading. We will also compare and contrast people, places, and things in our stories, and later move on to comparing and contrasting two texts.
- Small-Group Reading...ask your child if they have small group reading homework this week.
Spelling:
- Our spelling pattern this week is homophones. Please spend some time helping your child study. Students may also practice by using Spelling City. The link can be found at the bottom of this newsletter. Our word lists can be found under Amber Fleck.
Grammar/Writing:
- We are continuing work with main and helping verbs this week.
In writing, we continue to focus on informative writing.
- We are continuing our study of multiplication. Watch for flashcards in your child's binder. Please study these with your child for 10-15 minutes every night. Thanks for your support at home!! Mastering multiplication in third grade is a necessity for students to thrive in the upper grades.
- We are switching our focus to fractions!! There are so many real life examples we can tie in with fractions!
Social Studies:
- We continue to study Native American groups that lived in Indiana. Students will complete some fun flip books to organize facts about these tribes!
- Native American test will be on Thursday, February 13. See the Quizlet link toward the end of the newsletter. This is a great way for your child to study for our test!

Kindness Challenge
This year, students at Ireland Elementary will be completing the Kindness Challenge again. We did this challenge a few years ago, and I am positive we can all complete the challenges this year! This week's challenge is...
Give your parents and siblings lots of hugs just because!
At the end of each week, students who have completed the Kindness Challenge for that week will get to put a sticker up for that act. Kindness is free...sprinkle that stuff everywhere!
