Bulldog Bulletin
New Britton Elementary - March 25, 2016
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
Our NBE Walkathon is quickly approaching! In preparation for this fit and fun activity, we will be having spirit week starting on Monday. Please be sure to review the information below so that your student can show his/her Bulldog PRIDE each day by participating in spirit week. Thank you for collecting and sending in donations for our walkathon; the money raised comes directly back to our students and their learning communities!
At Wednesday’s HSE School Board meeting, the board voted 7-0 in favor of the elementary 1:1 rollout plan with some revisions. Dr. Bourff and Dr. Combs presented the following revisions to address the parent concerns that have been shared over the past few months. For more information, please click here to review their presentation.
A large group of our Bulldog teachers attended last night’s elementary learning fair to continue to expand our knowledge regarding ways in which we can use technology to enhance learning. We are looking forward to next year and growing with our students as we use this new teaching and learning tool. We would like to thank our PTO for paying for the dinner at this event!
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a wonderful spring, holiday weekend!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Spring Parties
Magazine Subscription Drive
Hey, New Britton Families! We are fast approaching the end of the year and it’s time to begin thinking about summer reading and keeping skills strong. Along with joining the Summer Reading Program at the Fishers Library, another way to encourage students to read is with magazines! Providing high-interest, concise articles, like those in magazines, can also boost reading skills. There are several choices of publications; take a look at this website: www.gaschoolstore.com to see what’s available. There are many titles that your children, you, or other members of your family may enjoy. A school order code will be provided at the beginning of our magazine subscription drive, if you wish to purchase something.
With that being said, the rotation beginning April 22nd , students will be bringing home a booklet containing 8 postcards. An example of how to fill them out will be provided on the second page of the booklet. If you could, please fill out the booklet with different, complete names and addresses of adult relatives and close family friends who you feel might be interested in purchasing a magazine, and New Britton’s Library will be given a portion of the profit to purchase books! The booklets are to be returned the next school day. Each student who participates will receive a Garfield keychain, and the classroom with the most booklets returned will win a special prize.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Crane, Library/Media Specialist

Each year the Geist Half Marathon has over 1,500 local students participate in their 5K, 10K or Half Marathon. This year on May 21, 2016, New Britton Elementary would like you to show your school pride by lacing up your walking/running shoes and wearing your New Britton school spirit wear!
This local race has donated $366,000 back into our schools over the last 8 years to support physical fitness in our children.
As part of the Geist Half School Program, your race packets will be delivered to Mrs. Jessica Shelton (1st grade) on Tuesday or Wednesday of race week for your convenience. More information to follow! You also receive a school discount! We ask that when you register, select the School Program ticket, then select New Britton– it’s that simple! Make this a family day!

ATTENTION 3RD and 4th GRADE PARENTS – ISTEP part 2/CCRA (College &Career Ready Assessment) testing done online during the time period of April 18 through May 6. NBE normally tries to get the testing done in the beginning of the time period and more so in the morning so that make-up’s can be done later in that date timeline. As the time gets closer, teachers will send out detailed dates and information to parents.
The Indiana Department of Education has provided parents with some information concerning the testing at the link below:
http://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/istep-grades-3-8
Teachers will be providing students the opportunity to go online to learn about the new ISTEP/CCRA assessment. Below is the link for you and your child to look over in your home and will give you a chance to see some types of questions that will be on the assessment.

Here are just a few tips for a good start to every morning and they also make for an even better testing situation:
- Get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!
- A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
- Eat a good healthy breakfast.
- Wear comfortable clothes.
- Talk to your students about the test in advance not just the week of the test. Remind them to give their best effort today and everyday. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
- Encourage your student to listen to the teacher for directions.
- Remind your student that they can figure out tough questions that they have the grit and perseverance to figure it out.
- Encourage your student to think positively – they can do this!!!
- Smile J and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone.
Thanks for your help.
