Curriculum Corner:

We have been working with students to prepare them for the possibility of remote learning due to quarantine. Staff have incorporated the use of technology into the daily schedule for circle time, work activities and video instruction. Each student has a designated device assigned to them. The Speech Therapist has started to zoom into certain classrooms for sessions to prepare the students for the possibility of teletherapy when it becomes necessary. The student in the picture below is participating in a zoom session with our Speech Therapist. She zoomed in from her office to assist in generalizing instruction from in person to remote. The student is able to participate verbally as well as when given screen access by the therapist for hands on participation.

The Billerica Adventure Series Corp. has donated copies of I'M NOT AFRAID to distribute to classrooms, K-2 at all of our Lowell schools. The Greater Lowell Community Foundation and other sponsors have made this gift possible.

I'M NOT AFRAID is a story about two families, and how they are each handling the COVID-19 challenge with their young child.

This book, I'M NOT AFRAID, is being translated into Spanish and Portuguese and will be ready for schools in early 2021. Please let me know if you would like any books with these translations. Billerica Access Television has made a video of a reading of the book with a five-year-old child asking questions. Link for this will be forthcoming.

News from Nurse Lea....

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.

With the holidays we know that some families are planning travel.

The school department and Health Department recommend that during COVID that families try to limit group sizes, maintain social distance and mask wearing.

If it is necessary to travel outside of Massachussetts please follow the MA.Gov guidelines:

Please be advised that only a negative PCR test will be accepted for your child to return to school.

Thank you for all that you do to help keep the Day school community well and the school open.

COVID reminders....

Although it is not required... if you, an immediate family member living in your home, or your child are symptomatic and are waiting for a scheduled COVID test or you are waiting for the results of a COVID test please consider keeping your child home until the family member receives their test results. By the time the student has been identified as a close contact to the positive family member the student may have exposed multiple staff or students within their classroom or school bus. We are doing our best to stop the spread and keep the program open. As we all know, our students learn best when they are in the school building. Help us fight the fight. Stay healthy! Stay strong! Thanks!
