BATHING CHILDREN SAFETY
Don't let your child sink!
FACTS FOR PARENTS
WHAT'S THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE?
- Make sure the water temperature for your baby is warm, but not too hot (put cold water into the bath first, then continue to add the hot water)
- For newborns and babies (6 months old), the water should be 13 cm (5 in) deep. Make sure the water is at least covering the baby's shoulders and they are well settled. Never fill the bath more than waist-high in a sitting position.
- When placing your baby in the bath put your hand firmly under their bottom and then place your other arm under the back of their neck and shoulders. Once in the water, use the hand that was supporting their bottom to wash them. You can also purchase a bath cradle or bath seat. ALWAYS stay and watch your baby.
- It's up to you! During the first month you only have to wash your baby two or three times a week and when needed. Their hair does not produce a lot of oil either so you do not need to wash their hair every day. Also, choose a mild and liquid baby cleanser. This will help you maintain your baby's natural skin barrier.
