A Note From The Principal
Dear NPE Families:
Our first few weeks have gone very smoothly! I would like to thank everyone that attended our Curriculum Night on August 27th. It was wonderful meeting so many families, and watching them check off all of the places they visited. The night was a great success! We are now back in full swing and off to what I know will be an amazing school year.
I want to thank everyone for their patience Labor Day weekend while we waited out Hurricane Dorian. We were lucky it moved away from us, although I am sure some of you know others not so lucky. Please make sure you keep your contact information up to date. Hurricane season is far from over and I want everyone to be able to be contacted if need be.
I welcome all of you to make this the year that you volunteer either directly at Naples Park or during one of our PTO events. If you would like to help out but not sure how, give me a call or contact Stephanie Lucarelli, our PTO President, at naplesparkpto@aol.com. We will also be having a Volunteer Orientation at 8:30AM on September 12th.
I am very excited to announce to you that on Thursday, October 31st, Naples Park Elementary will host our first School-Wide Storybook Character Parade at 9:00AM! Please review the section in this newsletter to learn more about what your child can wear and what they can’t. We are very excited to add this activity and hope it is received well by our families so it can become an annual event. We will also be sending home information on a fun Potato Decorating Contest.
Again, Thank you for all that you do to make Naples Park such a great place to learn!
Warmest Regards,
Principal

A Note from the Assistant Principal
It is imperative that all students arrive on time and ready to do their very best every school day. This means getting a good night’s sleep and eating a healthy breakfast so students have the energy and brain power to stay focused. Remember breakfast is served at school every day beginning at 7:45 and is FREE to all students!
Additionally, it is equally important for your child to remain at school until dismissal. Early dismissals cause interruptions in learning and will continue to be monitored in the same manner as tardies. Don’t forget to notify the front office by 2:15 if it is necessary to change how your child is to get home and remember that we will not allow any early dismissals between 2:30 and 2:50 unless it is an emergency. These procedures are in place to maintain the safety of all students and your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Melissa Stamper
Assistant Principal
NPE will host our first School-Wide Storybook Character Parade
Naples Park Elementary will host our first School-Wide Storybook Character Parade on Thursday, October 31st at 9:00AM. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character. Parents are welcome to attend and we will have seats available for visitors in the café. Students may choose any character from a book they enjoy following the guidelines in this letter. To support students’ feelings of safety and security in our building, violent or frightening costumes are not acceptable. No weapons or dangerous-looking items will be permitted to accompany a costume. Also, no masks will be allowed. Children are walking a fairly long distance and we are trying to prevent accidents.
Here are some examples of acceptable costume choices, and some examples of unacceptable choices:
Acceptable Examples
Fancy Nancy
Cinderella, Snow White, etc.
Greg Heffley (the Wimpy Kid)
Ramona
Superman, Spiderman, etc.
Ms. Frizzle
Babymouse
Bone
Olivia
Junie B. Jones
Nate the Great
Geronimo Stilton
Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron, etc.
Unacceptable Examples
Characters from Goosebumps
Vampires
Grim Reaper
Characters with guns or weapons
Witches, Ghosts or Goblins
Horror movie characters
Captain Underpants (inappropriate for school)
Fake blood
You do NOT have to buy anything new for this event. Instead, be creative – make paper ears, a hat, or wear the clothes the character would wear. Children should either carry the book or make a large name tag stating the title of the book they are representing. Children should come to school dressed as the storybook character, and should be able to go to the bathroom independently while in character. (After the parade students will be asked to change into school cloths so please make sure you pack a bag to put their costume in.) Students who do not wish to wear a costume may make signs or props to carry during the parade representing a favorite book character. Please talk with your child about how he or she would like to participate in this event, and mark your calendars!
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. Thank you for joining us as we embark on this new tradition with our NPE sharks. We can’t wait to see all of your adorable characters parade around the school!!
