The Liverpool Letter
Liverpool Public School - May 2021
Diary Dates
Term 1
Principal's Message
Welcome back to Term 2!
I was so proud of our school leaders and senior choir who represented the school at Liverpool Pioneer Park’s 200th anniversary. They sang beautifully and looked wonderful in their school uniforms. Many of the attendees commented on how well our students conducted themselves. Well done!
All staff were involved in developing their understanding of Leader in Me at our recent school development day. Continuing the implementation of Leader in Me is a key component of our Strategic Improvement Plan. The Lighthouse Team are working to develop a series of workshops for parents and carers to share ideas for how Leader in Me can help students at home. Once dates have been organised we will share this information with parents and carers.
The 2020 Annual Report was published and is available to our community on the school planning and reporting page of our website. Unfortunately the responses to Covid impacted on a lot of our regular programs. We look forward to rebooting many of these this year!
Over the autumn holiday we upgraded the gardens at the front of the school. I am sure you are as pleased as we are with how wonderful the gardens look. A new LED sign is planned to be installed next week. This will be another way for us to share with our community the latest information about all the wonderful things happening at Liverpool Public School.
Congratulations to Daniel in 6W who was selected to play for Sydney South West in the PSSA Opens Rugby League Tournament in Tamworth later this term. This was after his success as part of the Liverpool team who finished first in both the opens competition and Under 11s for the first time in 33 years! Representative sporting teams are very competitive and many students participate with the hope of being selected. We wish Daniel and his team the very best this season!
Next week, Year 3 and Year 5 students will begin their NAPLAN assessments. Further information is included in this newsletter or available on the National Assessment Program website. Our Year 4 and Year 6 students completed their check-in assessments earlier this week. The information from these assessments will be combined with other assessment strategies to support teaching and learning in our school.
To all our families observing the holy month of Ramadan, I wish you Eid Mubarak for Eid al-Fitr at the end of next week.
Yours Sincerely
Mr Tapuska

Early Stage 1 News - Ms Vejzovic
It has been a productive start to Term 2 where students in Kindergarten have been participating in a range of engaging and hands on learning experiences across all Key Learning Areas.
As the weather is getting cooler students are wearing their school jumpers and jackets. Please make sure all students belongings are labelled, including their school hats, lunch boxes and water bottles.
Between May and July this year, our school will be taking part in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC). This is a nationwide census/survey of early childhood development held once every three years. The AEDC is an Australian Government initiative run by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment and includes all children in their first year of full-time school.
The AEDC provides vital information to communities about how children are developing in the crucial early years. AEDC data is relied upon by schools, early childhood organisations, researchers and government to inform planning and improve services and supports for children and families.
If you have any questions please see your classroom teacher.

We’re off to another busy and fun-filled Term 2.
Year 1 and Year 2 both have excursions coming up, so make sure payment is made and notes are returned before the due date.
We would like to remind parents to avoid speaking to classroom teachers as students are moving off to class in the morning. Please make an appointment through the office to arrange a more suitable time to speak to you child’s teacher.
This month students are learning about Habit 3 of The Leader in Me, Putting First Things First. Parents can help their child to focus on the important things when they organise their time. This could be creating short schedules or plans to help them get ready for bed or complete their homework.
We look forward to seeing students planning and organising their time at school as well.

3S has been learning about the artist Ken Done and his work. We have been studying about his life, his background and his work. We then attempted to use techniques to recreate a version of Ken Done’s artwork.
We used bright colours in our artwork just as Ken Done does. Below are some of our great creations!
