News Bites We Want to Share

  • We are starting the month of October. Fall is upon us and we hope you and your families are doing well. School is advancing easier than this time last year and we and we want to thank all of the families and staff for supporting the student's learning.
  • There are a number of workshops and training opportunities listed below. Please review and see if any are of interest to you or anyone you know.
  • Our main goal continues to be to build the home school connection and if you have any questions for the staff please do not hesitate to reach out and ask.
  • Please see the opportunity to make an appointment to ask me any questions (staff or families). I will make myself available to you and if I do not know an answer I will take note and research to find the answer.

Lunch & Learn Series

Wednesday, Oct. 6th, 11:30am-1:30pm

Special School District’s Family and Community Outreach, Social Work, Parent Education and Diversity Awareness (PEDA) and Communications departments have teamed up to offer a virtual Lunch & Learn series for SSD families and stakeholders. The series, which will involve community organizations sharing information about their work, will take place on the first Wednesday of each month during the 2021-22 school year, from 11:30 AM - Noon.

Representatives from nine community organizations will participate in order to increase awareness about their agency and make connections with those in our SSD community who may benefit from their programs and services.

WORKSHOP: Why is My Preschool Age Child Misbehaving?

Wednesday, Oct. 20th, 12:30pm

This is an online event.

This training will focus on early childhood specific positive parenting strategies to manage challenging behavior. Parents will leave with hands-on strategies that can be implemented in the home setting.

Planning for the Future - Augmentative Communication Funding

Thursday, Oct. 14th, 12:30pm

This is an online event.

Augmentative Communication facilitators from Special School District will discuss ways that families and students can pursue funding for augmentative communication devices. An additional discussion will include what the process is for families to purchase dedicated communication systems for their student when considering transition and post-secondary outcomes.
