Halloween Disco
While I was unable to see it first-hand (due to work commitments with the Ministry in Wellington), the live updates and photos from the Halloween Disco last Friday were enough to know what a fantastic time the children had in their amazing costumes!
Thanks once again to the PTA team who helped to organise this event, and I would particularly like to acknowledge our very own local legend Clive Jepson for his creativity with the Halloween decorations!
Zones Softball Success
I'd like to pass on congratulations to our Softball Teams, who competed at Zones earlier this week, winning 1st Place for the Girls' (mixed) Team and 2nd Place for the Boys (A) Team. Our thanks go to Karen Moore and Christina Levi for coaching duties, and also Janice Cearns for her support on the day.
Class Placements 2023
Hard to believe as it may be, our process for next year's class placements gets underway in the next few weeks. If you are wondering about our approach, the simple answer is that we follow criteria to ensure the best possible balance of;
- gender
- ability
- learning support and/or emotional needs
- language learning needs
We also ask the children to self-nominate 4 students they learn well with (from any class in their year level), and endeavour to match them with at least one from their list to ensure every child knows they can expect at least one gauranteed positive connection in their new class.
Please note that we don't accept parent requests for specific teachers (or friendships). If there are any specific factors relating to your child's learning needs that we may not already be aware of, please get in touch with our Class Placements Coordinator, Associate Principal Hilary Edwards: hilarye@mteden.school.nz
Next week, we have the Y3 and Y4-6 Athletics to look forward to, with parents who wish to attend welcome to cheer our athletes on at any of these events.
A friendly reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is a non-uniform day, with a (non-alcoholic) bottle donation requested!

Food & Fun Fair 2022 - 1.5 weeks to go!
Help!
You should have received an email from your class coordinator and another from the office this week with lots of reminders and requests for help. The fair is an epic event - to make it happen we need a small amount of time from every family.
Many thanks to the parents, school admin and teachers who have already signed up to help
- People Power spreadsheet: They say it takes a village to raise a child… turns out it takes an army to run a fair!! In case you missed it – here is the link to the People Power spreadsheet.
Please check out which stall your class has been allocated and sign up to lend a hand for an hour (or more if you like)!
- Parent with a van
We desperately need help from a parent/caregiver that has a van or truck and availability on Friday 11th. A few neighbouring schools have generously loaned us trestle tables and gazebos - we need these to be collected during school hours and delivered to the school.
- Fair set up - Clothing & Toys
Please come to the hall this week - even if you can spare just 15 minutes after drop off or before pick up! We have piles of clothing to display before next Tuesday 8th November's 'Pre-sales night' - and mountains of books and toys to sort too! No experience necessary.
Anytime between 8.30 - 10.30am and 2pm - 4pm.
- Clothing racks
The clothing stall is in need of more clothing racks. Do you have some at home we could please borrow for 2 weeks? Or can you please email us details of a source of strong racks we could borrow?
- Samosas stall coordinator
We have ordered the samosas and need someone to help coordinate this stall. We have lots of info about how this has been run in the past and just require a main point of contact for this popular food stall.
- Dunking machine
Know any local celebs or sports stars to be nominated / volunteered for dunking?? The dunking machine is always a big hit and this year we’re looking to have a celebrity hour from 12 - 1pm. Please email menpspta@gmail.com if you’re keen or know anyone who might be game!!
Please reach out to us at the PTA inbox to see how you can help menpspta@gmail.com

Support our school by eating a delicious Roast at The Bridgman.
Seems too easy but $10 of every kids meal goes directly to our school funds. All you need to do is book your table and put MENPS into the ‘requests’ box and they will donate the profits of your kids meals back to the school.
Easy right?
Just book here - The Bridgman | Corner of Dominion & Valley Roads | Carefully curated food, drinks & cocktails.
