Distance Learning Updates for the Week of April 6th
Principal's Message
Dear Wolfsville Community,
This newsletter finds you as we end our third week of school closure and first week of distance learning. These changes have presented some obstacles, but we've made it this far together! I extend my sincere gratitude to our school staff and community who have embarked on this journey supporting one another, in order to serve our children during this time.
What have we learned ?
- We miss our students and each other dearly! When we come out on the other side of this we are going to have one big celebration!
- There is a learning curve to distance learning. Establishing an at home school & work takes time- we are all encountering this! I encourage everyone to give themselves grace and patience through our new normal.
- Things don't always go as planned! We are hopeful the technology bandwidth will improve service next week. Due to outages and device deployment we have decided that ALL work assigned the first week of distance learning will not be due until Wednesday, April 8th at 4:00 PM. We hope this extended deadline helps ease anxiety due to some of the application issues.
- Our children are watching! They are learning how to be flexible, positive and above all else caring and compassionate by watching our lead through this time. You are doing a great job, under extremely difficult circumstances, and our children will remember your example!
I wish everyone a healthy and safe spring break and holiday weekend! We will continue to take things day by day and build on our successes. Please know, we are here for you and together we will rise !
Yours in Education,
Megan Stein, Principal

FCPS Meal Sites
Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) is serving breakfasts, lunches and suppers to go at 22 sites throughout Frederick County. Participants must be age 18 or under unless they are adults enrolled in an educational program for persons with disabilities. You do not have to live in Frederick County, be FCPS students or be registered to attend the schools serving meals. You do not have to be eligible for free or reduced-price meals. From all locations and at all mealtimes, children’s meals are “to go.”
Schoology Parent Support
We understand the Schoology platform and presented difficulty this week with distance learning. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the platform works to increase productivity due to excessive traffic. As shared above we have extended the original assignment deadlines and hope to see smoother use in the future! For continued support click the videos below for support.

Covid 19 Lesson for Kids
Lexia Core5 as a Literacy Resource
Wolfsville Elementary has been using the Lexia Core5 Reading program this year to support students’ individual reading needs in all grades. Many teachers are adding this to their required Schoology lessons, but students may also access this online learning program in addition to assignments.
We highly recommend that each student keep moving forward in the program as it will reinforce previously learned skills and then instruct students on new skills as they are ready. Children can work on this program independently. There are 21 Levels that have a variety of Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension skills. The teachers are able to track progress and minutes through a main data page to ensure success.
If you find your child struggling, or would like to know how they are keeping up with their weekly minutes, please feel free to email Mrs. Cassidy at kathleen.cassidy@fcps.org.
We have included a link if you would like to learn more.
40 Book Challenge
We will be continuing our 40 books challenge and will have a plan to celebrate everyone that continues to read during their continuity of instruction. Students may add anything that they read, including things their teacher assigned, as this reading has become independent as well.
Record all the books that you are reading on this chart and keep your book list going. You can make a list on any paper or use the online site Beanstack on our media center page. We will let you know about the celebration once we know when we will be back together again.
