How to Register to Vote

Voter Eligibility
- US citizen
- Resident of NC
- Live in the county in which one votes for at least 30 days
Methods of Registration
- Mail the Voter Registration Application to the Board of Elections Office
- In Person at state agencies, including the DMV
- Fax/Email the Voter Registration Application to the Board of Elections Office AND submit a signature in person or by mail within 20 days of the deadline
Out of State Residents
- May only vote if permanent residence is in North Carolina
- Register via the methods above
Deadlines
- Must be received by the office or postmarked at least 25 days prior to Election Day
Military/Overseas Registration
- Allowed for Residents of NC overseas during election
- Federal Postcard Application can be used to register and vote
- Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot is an additional option
- Must be signed and received by 5 PM on the day prior to the election by e-mail, fax, or mail
