Attendance Update
Instruction for Week of January 4-8
During the week of January 4–8, all JM students will be distance learning. During this transition week, teacher will not introduce new content and will not start the next instructional LAP/Modules in Canvas. Instead, this first week back will focus on transitioning to synchronous teaching and learning by establishing classroom communities through introducing expectations, norms, policies, procedures, and relationship building, as well as targeted review of semester 1 content. Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous workdays for students.
New Instructional Model for Second Semester
The week of January 11-15, students will begin new instruction with the start of LAP 6 in a ‘skinny’ LAP format. All students will continue with distance learning for this week but will be expected to attend synchronous classes. Instruction will be delivered primarily through synchronous class meetings, with some asynchronous work assigned between classes.
Starting on January 19, FCPS will begin returning students to school following a hybrid model as approved by the school board. Students will be attending based on Zone assignments, with some students remaining as fully remote distance learners. See the daily.weekly schedule below.
The New "Skinny" LAPs
New Structure of LAPs
Assignments will be made accessible for students every day or so rather than three weeks of work all at one time.
Assignments
Starting with LAP 6, students will be assigned up to 25 minutes of work per class to be completed outside of the virtual and in-person class meetings (maximum of 50 minutes per week). Exceptions will be made for AP, IB, and Dual Enrollment classes.
Deadlines and Dates
Starting in January, students will be expected to submit all LAP assignments by assigned due dates, rather than at the end of the LAP or semester. It will be important for our new synchronous model of instruction that all students are on the same pace in their classes. Formal accommodations for students regarding due dates will still apply. Late work will only be allowed with approval on an individual basis based on extenuating circumstances.
