Below are links to the summer assignments in ELA and Mathematics for incoming 7th and 8th graders.
Summer Math Assignments:
Juneteenth
- Learning for Justice emphasizes that “lessons about Juneteenth need to recognize the challenges those who fight injustice have always faced” as well as “jubilant celebrations of culture [and] activism.” They offer some instructional tips about how to approach the day with nuance and thoughtfulness.
- Teach for America’s website includes a video discussion about the importance of Juneteenth and of culturally responsive teaching more generally, as well as a variety of educative and teaching resources about the holiday.

“Celebrate our Differences - Equality Mural” at KPMS
This mural was created by a group of students working towards their Girl Scout Silver Award to celebrate our differences. It is meant to promote equity and inclusivity for all students, especially those who are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of color) and/or in the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) community. This mural hopes to inspire equity, acceptance, kindness, love, and respect in the KP community. It shows that everybody is accepted and loved, even though they are from different cultures or places.
