AISD Celebrates National Arts in Education Week

This week Argyle is recognizing and celebrating National Arts in Education Week! National Arts in Education Week is a national celebration recognizing the transformative power of the arts in education. The celebration is designated to bring attention to this cause for elected officials and educational decision makers across the country and to support equitable access to the arts for all students.

In recognition of arts in education, we celebrate the outstanding artwork of several Argyle High School students. Their artwork is pictured and posted on Argyle ISD's Facebook page.

This marked a record ninth consecutive year Argyle has won the award. Argyle finished with a school-record 148 points last year, which were the most by any classification.

New Tradition: Elementary Campuses Honor Grandparents

The grandparent parades at the Argyle ISD elementary campuses have become a popular new tradition! Last Friday and this week, Argyle West, Hilltop and Argyle Intermediate each hosted grandparent parade drive-thrus. The decorations were a hit!

This tradition was started last year when visitors were not allowed to enter campuses and this new idea was launched. There was such a great response last year, the parades have continued and this year was just as special and with great turnouts. Special thanks to all our grandparents and families who attended!

Important Graduation Requirements: Senior Parents

In 2019, the 86th Texas Legislature established a new requirement for Texas students to complete a financial aid application (or formally opt out) in order to graduate. In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:

  • Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);

  • Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or

  • Submit a signed opt-out form.

For many students, financial aid makes college or training after high school a realistic goal. And when higher education feels attainable, students are more likely to pursue it. This new graduation requirement will give students an extra push to apply for financial aid. Louisiana adopted a similar policy in 2017. Afterward, the percentage of students completing a financial aid application rose from 51.2% to 77.1%.

The AHS counselors will offer several opportunities to help you with this process. We will host a Financial Aid presentation on Thursday, September 23rd at 6:00 PM that will walk you through what you need to know in order to begin filling out the FAFSA. The FAFSA application opens for you to start completing on October 1st. We will also host several workshops throughout the month of October to facilitate this process. More information will be coming on the dates and times of these workshops.

For more information on this new graduation requirement, feel free to visit https://texasoncourse.org/educators/popular-links/the-new-financial-aid-graduation-requirement/for-families/. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s counselor.
