Career Connections Program at Beech Grove High School
New program connects BGHS students directly with local professionals
A new program has been launched at Beech Grove High School. The objectives of the Career Connections - Pathways Exploration Program are:
Help students identify and explore career possibilities by fully utilizing the resources of the Beech Grove Guidance Department, the new College and Career area, the Advisory Board Members of the Applied Life Science – Agricultural Education Program, and additional individuals familiar with specific careers.
Seventeen students enrolled in the pilot program: 8 freshmen, 3 sophomores, and 6 juniors.
Based on the guidance and instruction provided by Guidance Counselors, Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Cooley, the students completed three different programs, and each student then identified three possible careers based on their interests and strengths.
Students started meeting with professionals this week: Phil Cooley, Law Enforcement;
Larry Sernyk, Dow AgroSciences; Greg Bohlander, Indiana Farm Bureau;
Rich Witmer - Former Beech Grove Police Chief and currently Director of Security for Franciscan/St. Francis Hospital; Madelyn Walters, Adayana (an agricultural business consulting group); and Frank Mascari, owner of Spalding Jewelry in Beech Grove. Other professionals will be meeting with students next week.
Special thanks to Bruce Bye, Chair of the Agri-Science Advisory Council, for coordinating this new program with BGHS staff!

Cooper Fritch's Artwork Featured on BGCS Electronic Sign at 13th and Main Streets
Cooper's Mom sent us the following email: "I’m not sure how this happened, but my son Cooper’s artwork is featured on the Hornet Sign at the MS Track! It’s part of the advertisement for the Art Show coming up. I’m unable to capture a picture as it distorts with my camera. Either way, just thought that was a cool thing to happen to Cooper. I’ve attached a copy of the artwork that came home. This is the same one that’s on the board, but in different colors. "
Cooper's artwork will be featured in the new Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce Community Calendar. Cooper is a 4th Grade student in Mrs. Doyle's class at South Grove Intermediate School. Cooper's artwork is featured below. Congratulations, Cooper! We love your artwork!
Young Champions Cheerleading Competes in Regional Contest
From Cheer Manager (and Beech Grove Mom) Vicki Sutton: "Young Champions Cheerleading held its regional competition on April 19th in Franklin, Indiana. Several Beech Grove students participated in this competition! They had a great day!
Division 1 was as cute as they could be making all kinds of fun fishy faces. Division 2 had great smiles all day long. The SouthEast Indy locations had 4 teams. Division 3 placed second and Division 4 placed first in their division! Divisions 3 & 4 will participate in the state competition held on May 16th. Great job to all of the girls!!
