Oakley Park Hours: 8:55 am - 4:00 pm Monday-Friday

What a great week!

Hello Oakley Park families!

It has been a great week at Oakley Park, beginning with a wonderful Meet & Greet on Monday! Thank you to our PTA for the fun activities and for providing the Kona Ice truck! It was so special to see old and new families and to welcome everyone INTO the building. The staff and I look forward more opportunities in the coming months to welcome our families back into the building.

Our first three days of school were wonderful too! I am so proud of students and staff as they quickly adjusted to the change regarding masking based on the mandate from the Oakland County Health Department. We have had three awesome days...learning classroom routines, playing with friends (new and old) AND beginning grade level learning.

For the past 28 years, Oakley Park has been such an important part of my life as parent of three Owls, a teacher of various grades and as the Principal (beginning my twelfth year) I continue to be so honored to serve this one-of-a-kind community. The support of our families is remarkable...as adults we have faced so many challenges since March of 2019 and we worked hard to meet the needs of our families including virtual learning! YOU have been unweaving in putting our kids first! Thank you for trusting and partnering with the outstanding Oakley Park staff to educate and love your children!

Have a great weekend!

End of the Day

We urge all families to either utilize Owl Pick Up or the bus ( if district transportation is available to your family.) Dismissal is a VERY busy time and a large number of students being signed out/picked up makes it challenging for us to ensure the safety of our students. If you are signing your child out, please move away from the front door area to wait for them. As you see below, we have staggered dismissal times however we are dismissal approximately 375 students!

We understand that new routines are being, especially for our newest Owls. Thank you in advance for your help with ensuring our dismissal is able to run smoothly and safely!

Staggered Dimssal times:

3:55 pm begin calling Owl Pick Up numbers

3:56 pm Walkers and Prime time

3:57 pm begin calling student names (based on parent sign out)

3:58 pm begin calling bus numbers

*Owl Pick Up numbers and student names will continue to be called throughout the dismissal period.

Curriculum Nights

Our 21-22 Curriculum Nights will be virtual. Teachers will be sending a Zoom link prior to the schedule date/time. We hope you will plan to attend this VERY important night!

Therapy Dog Update

As we wrapped up in June, I shared the BIG news that Oakley Park had been selected to get a therapy dog! We are ready to move forward with this amazing program! Walled Lake currently has therapy dogs at 5 of our elementary schools, one middle school and one high schools. The goal over the next few years is to have therapy dog in each of our Walled Lake schools.

As we move forward, our first step is to fundraise $9000.00 to purchase and train the dog. We are welcoming donations from families and we would love to partner with local businesses too. Beyond the purchasing of the dog, we will look to partner to provide veterinary care, grooming and food! Businesses/families who donate $1000 will have their name/logo on our dogs working vest! A donation of $4500 earn the donor the opportunity to name our dog! All donations will be tax deductible and we will provide a letter for your tax filing purposed. We will be planning some fun ways the kids can help fundraise too!

Donations can be made by check: payable to WLCSD. Please look for a follow up email next week will include a convenient eFunds link allowing for online donations.

Medication at School

We realize there are times when our students will need medication administered at school. In order for school personnel to administer medication to a student, the school district’s “Authorization to Administer Medication” form must be completed and on file in the school office. (This form must be completed yearly) You will find the form linked below. All medication (both prescription and over-the-counter) must be in the original containers. Form and medication can be dropped off at our main office beginning Monday, August 23rd.
