Welcome to ROMS!

Letter from the Principal

Hello Class of 2030 and Families,

Welcome to Royal Oak Middle School. We are very excited to have you join us in the fall of 2023 at ROMS! We wanted to create this newsletter to keep you updated on all of the exciting events coming your way this spring, over the summer, and most importantly...in the fall when you are officially BULLDOGS. We truly cannot wait to make you all apart of our family.

First, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kristin Meldrum and I am already headed into my 2nd year as principal of Royal Oak Middle School. My first year here has been amazing and I can't wait to get started and to meet you all. This is my 16th year in education and I am so blessed to be able to spend it with the wonderful staff here. I live in Royal Oak with my family and we enjoy going to all of the parks, taking lots of walks, and heading to our cabin when we can. If you see us out and about, do not hesitate to say hello!

This newsletter is meant to inform and keep you updated. Please let me know if there is any additional information you think all families could benefit from.

Looking forward to all of the fun times ahead!

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three or four year) formats. Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP).The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. The MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group, in each year of the programme. In the final two years of the programme, carefully-defined subject group flexibility allows students to meet local requirements and personal learning goals (IBO.org)

Here are some of the clubs that were offered this year! Times and dates will be determined next year, but this is a great conversation to have with your student about the options they have to get involved at ROMS.
