Academic Conferences
Each year, sophomores and juniors meet with their counselor to review transcripts, PSAT scores, and discuss post high school plans.
Parents are encouraged to join their learner for this informative individual conference.
Beginning mid-February, counselors will start academic conferences with juniors and their parent/guardian.
Sophomore conferences will begin the last day of February.
First Years
Today counselors met with first years regarding courses for next year and Naviance.
Each learner present was given a registration form for next year that requests a parent signature.
We encourage you to use the opportunity to facilitate conversation with your learner around their growth next year and what they have to look forward to as a 2nd year learner.
In addition, counselors introduced learners to Naviance asking them to complete a StrengthsExplorer Assessment which might provide insight into future career interests.
Each year learners will be completing tasks in Naviance that we hope will help prepare them for their own next steps after high school.

First Years
First years are putting the finishing touches on their launching devices in preparation for Game Day tomorrow at Clark Stadium. In class, they have launched a new project, Lights Camera Action (LCA) which began with two days of filming, producing, and editing a commercial called “Sell Your School” in which learners highlighted key aspects of what makes the academy a great place to learn. We hope to see you tomorrow at Clark Stadium!
The weather forecast tomorrow is sunny with a high of 52 degrees. It will be cold in the morning. Sunrise will be 38 degrees, so please dress warm. By game time, it will be around 50 degrees.
Dad’s Club helpers should meet at 10:15 near the Fab Lab. See you tomorrow!
The PTSA is providing lunch, free of charge, to first year learners on Game Day. The PTSA will also be selling food, beverages, and spirit wear to all attendees!
Second Years
As Beneath the Surface enters the end-phase, learners are getting a lot of hands-on experience. Learners built Pinhole cameras, built knowledge around processing photographs and developed their
own pictures in the Academy “Dark Room”. Many of the photographs developed quite well. Learners also recently finished reading George Orwell’s 1984, and are applying elements of propaganda to develop short videos that demonstrate their understanding of propaganda.
Submersible builds are coming along very well, as the Second Years prepare for “pool day” at the Williams Natatorium. The submersibles will need to be able to complete a number of challenges, which will allow them to gather information, which will be necessary at the final General Assembly of the Academy’s Second Annual Model United Nations. These are looking to be the most advanced submersibles that have been created in the last few years, and the Second Year team is excited to see what’s in store.
Third Years
The 3rd year learners have had a busy and productive week. We have visited the Perot Museum to investigate interactive exhibits, the learners received their new groups for project Turning Points, and the learners received feedback from their practice STAAR exam.
Next week the learners will meet with their research consultants and museum experts to receive feedback on museum ideation. They will also engage in thoughtful discussions, research, and create art about the major Turning Points of their individual topics.
Event Details:
6:00 pm Arrival: Learners line up for the entry procession and parents who are bringing a ring to the ceremony give the ring to Jostens to be placed in a box.
6:30 – 7:15 pm Program
7:15 – 7:45 pm Reception -Hosted by the PTSA
Dress is business professional attire. It is the same dress expectation as formal project presentations. Bring your camera!
Fourth Years
This week 4th year learners identified an area of Plano to consider revitalizing for their project, Suburban Soul. They prepared a mini presentation for approval from their facilitators that included an understanding of the cultural and sustainability considerations with revitalizing an area. The presentation also allowed learners the opportunity to review information from the Collin County Assessor's Office to gain data about the proposed land.
