March Newsletter
Dear Parkview Families,
I won’t ask the question if March will come in like a lamb or a lion? Our crazy winter weather has made its presence known to all of us in Western Wisconsin! It is my hope that our lion-like weather is behind us and March will bring us a balance of sunshine, warmer temperatures and steady snow melt. Even with the unprecedented amount of snow days, February was a busy month especially with celebrating 100 Days of School, a fourth grade music performance, staff development, and a Title 1 Family Reading Night for Grades K & 1. Thank you to our families for accommodating us in adding the extra ten minutes to the school day. The transition has been very smooth in getting everyone to school five minutes earlier and picking up five minutes later. That time should add up quickly to help us make up for lost instruction time.
March should also prove to be a busy month as we will have Parent/Teacher Conferences on March 5 & 7. Spring Break is also upon us towards the end of the month. It always amazes me during this time of year how things really seem to kick up into high speed!
As the days start to get longer and the spring season officially begins, I would like to share a few reminders about student attendance. Students may arrive on the playground starting at 7:20 AM. Our instructional day officially begins at 7:43. If your child is late in the morning, be sure to have them check-in at the front office. If you know that your child will be late due to an appointment or absent for part or the full day, please be sure to call our attendance line and report the absence. Our phone number is 715-720-3750. In the afternoon, if your child’s schedule needs to change, please try to call the office before 1:30 PM to report the change, as this helps greatly in getting the information out to the classrooms in a timely manner. Also, if bussing is involved, be sure to fill out a bus deviation. Bus deviation forms can be picked up in the office. These proactive steps greatly with supervision, accountability and safety! We thank you for your continued support at the beginning and the end of the school day.
Yours in Parkview PRIDE,
Melissa Olson

PBIS News
Wow! The school year is just flying by! PBIS begins with the word Positive. To add a little positivity to the month of February, teachers did a few secret dress up days. Ask your student what items of clothing the teachers added each Wednesday. Your student was able to participate one of the days as well.
In March, students will be challenged to keep their locker area as neat and clean as possible. Please encourage your student to bring to school only what they need; not toys or extra things. Also, ask if your student has extra sweatshirts and other clothing items in his/her locker that could be brought home. “Locker Mania” will be judged by the classroom teachers and custodial staff. The winners will get a little party in the Library.
Spring Break is a great time to talk about PBIS outside of the school building. Ask questions like: How can you show respect to your neighbors? How can you be safe outside in the snow? How can you be responsible in your room? How can you show kindness on vacation?
Our next celebration theme will be, “Hop back on the bus after Spring Break.”

Requesting a Teacher
We believe that every child in the classroom at Parkview receives a quality education, so we don't encourage parents to request specific teachers. Because of the equity issues and mandates that we must comply with, we are not able to honor every request we receive, even of those whose parents feel their requests are based on exceptional educational reasons.
Parents who wish to request a specific classroom teacher need to put their request in writing to the office by April 12th. The request must include a first and second choice. Even with a first and second choice, we cannot guarantee that the request will be honored. Because of the amount of work involved in the development of class lists and the number of factors that we must consider when developing the lists, we will not honor requests that arrive after the April 12th deadline. All requests are treated equal and must be submitted in writing.
