A Message from our Principal...
Dear Jefferson Families,
Today when we did our pledges and announcements we noted that it is the 77th day of our school year. The students who were with me were incredulous. It’s amazing how quickly this year is flying by. Students are working hard and making good progress towards learning goals and objectives. Teachers are assessing that progress this week and next as students take the NWEA Winter assessments in both reading and math. We will be able to share just how much progress the students have made when we return from our Winter Break in early January.
This is a challenging year for everyone in the world of education. Nevertheless, we continue to find ways to work around the interruptions, new protocols, and other daily surprises. We consider it a privilege to be able to learn alongside our students, your children. They are amazingly resilient, flexible, and compassionate human beings. Thank you for sharing with us such precious future leaders. We are here for both the kids and their families. Please let us know how we can help make this school year the best it can be.
Sincerely,
Dr. Judy Floeter and Mrs. Tasha Rayas

4th Grade News
Hello! 4th Grade students have been hard at work with our multiplication unit! We are currently beginning with skip counting and looking at multiples of numbers. In reading, we have begun inference skills with pictures. We are also working on the difference between an inference and an observation.
Please remember to send your child to school with their winter coat, hat and gloves each day as winter is here! If you need anything please reach out to our school social workers for support.
The week leading up to winter break we will have fun with spirit days! Keep an eye out for more information from your child's homeroom teacher!

Intruder Drill
Dear Jefferson Families,
On Tuesday, December 14, at 8:30 A.M., our school will participate in a safety drill, in particular, a lockdown drill with Officer Ed Kohn our school resource officer. Our students and staff must be prepared to respond to an emergency and therefore, throughout the year we have safety drills for fire, tornado, and lockdowns. The goal of having any of these drills is to help students feel safe at school and for them to know what to do should an emergency arise. Practice is essential.
We have reviewed lockdown drill plans with staff and want to make sure our students and families are notified about this upcoming drill. Our school conducts one lockdown drill each school year in conjunction with the Harvard Police Department. The drill secures the school building and safely shelters all students, staff, and visitors inside. The purpose of this drill is to keep students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. All of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. No one is allowed to enter or leave the building until the authorities authorize a release.
We encourage you to talk to your students about what to do both at school and at home in the event of a crisis. If you choose for your student to not participate in the lockdown drill, please call us. If you have any questions please call our office at 815-943-6464.
